But the law does say that anyone using non-agricultural pesticides (biocides) needs to have appropriate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information<\/li>\n<li>Instruction<\/li>\n<li>Training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This includes being aware of and following certain legislation and regulations.<\/p>\n<h3>Pest control regulations<\/h3>\n<p>There are a few laws and regulations that a pest controller needs to adhere to to ensure their work is legal and safe:<\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/biocides\/index.htm\">Biocidal Products Regulations (BPR)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/biocides\/copr\/\">Control of Pesticides Regulations (COPR)<\/a><\/h5>\n<p>These two pieces of legislation regulate the kinds of pesticides that can be sold and used in the UK. These include products like insecticides and rodenticides. It\u2019s the user\u2019s responsibility to make sure that they\u2019re using a legal pesticide in a safe way.<\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/coshh\/index.htm\">Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)<\/a><\/h5>\n<p>This law says that it\u2019s employers&#8217; responsibility to control any hazardous substances they use. This is to prevent them from damaging the health of workers and others. Professionals can control the use of hazardous substances by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding out the hazards of any substances they use<\/li>\n<li>Making and implementing a risk assessment to prevent health damage<\/li>\n<li>Provide information and training for workers and others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Pest control training and qualifications<\/h3>\n<p>So while there aren\u2019t any specific credentials a pest controller needs to have, it\u2019s a good sign if they have at least one relevant qualification.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsph.org.uk\/\">The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH)<\/a> offer several pest control qualifications. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsph.org.uk\/qualification\/level-2-award-in-pest-management.html\">Level 2 Award in Pest Management<\/a> (supported by the <a href=\"http:\/\/npta.org.uk\/\">National Pest Technicians Association<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsph.org.uk\/qualification\/level-2-award-in-the-safe-use-of-rodenticides.html\">Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Rodenticides<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsph.org.uk\/qualification\/level-3-award-in-pest-management.html\">Level 3 Award in Pest Management<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s a good idea to check whether a pest control professional has qualifications from RSPH or another reputable provider.
