Significant electrical work needs building regulations approval in advance. Minor work doesn&#8217;t, but should still follow building regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Electrical work that needs building regulations approval in advance is a \u2018notifiable\u2019 job. Notifiable jobs include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Installing a new consumer unit (fuse box)<\/li>\n<li>Installing a complete new circuit<\/li>\n<li>Altering an existing circuit \u2013 but only if it\u2019s in a \u2018special location\u2019. Any work they carry out should meet building regulations standards.
