10 Ways to get a Bespoke Bedside Unit

A bedside unit is a must in every bedroom. There are plenty of styles to choose from in most homeware stores, but are you one of those people that loves a rare find?

If you like having unique pieces of furniture in your home, there are plenty of ways to get a bespoke bedside unit. See what you can find, and repurpose it into your bedroom storage.

Here are 10 ways to get a bespoke bedside unit – and they don’t have to be expensive.

1. Find an old gem

Your bedside table doesn’t have to have always been a bedside table. Why not try an old chest or a wooden crate? You might even be able to pick them up for free if you look on Facebook selling groups and other websites.

Make sure your vintage pieces are clean first before you bring them into your home. You don’t want any uninvited guests!

2. Put that stepladder to use

If you’ve got an old stepladder lying around, why not use that? A wooden one that you can paint would be best. Simply paint it to suit your bedroom and you’ve suddenly got at least two shelves to use.

3. Use shelves above

If you’ve not got any room at the side of the bed, use shelves above to store things you need at bedtime. You’ll have more room, so you can stock up your ‘to-read’ list and not even have to get out of bed to find your next page turner.

4. Fit a small shelf

If you’ve got really limited space, a mini shelf can be perfect for your essentials. You won’t be able to fit a lamp on there, but you could install a wall lamp to get round this problem.

5. Go for a built-in design

If you’re doing a full bedroom redesign, it’s worth considering building bedside units into the room. You could build box shelves onto the walls by the bed to give yourself a stylish solution.

6. Get an all-in-one bedframe

You might have to do a bit of searching, as all-in-ones were popular from the 50s to the 70s. If you can’t find a frame with the bedside units built in, why not get a carpenter to make one for you?

7. Find something long and leggy

If you’re strapped for space, find a bedside unit with long legs. It helps to make a room seem bigger because you can see the wall behind the unit. Give it a go!

8. Go searching for antiques

If you’ve got a bedroom that suits the vintage, old-fashioned style, go hunting for an antique piece. You’ll make your bedroom look elegant and inviting.

9. Maximise storage with drawers

If you need tonnes of space by your bed, go for a set of drawers. You can find all sorts when you look in the right places, so look online, go to auctions and secondhand shops.

10. Find a trusty side table

If all else fails, go for a side table. This doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style though – wherever you look, you’ll find amazing-looking pieces.

Never sacrifice style for functionality. If you do your research, the two will always go hand in hand.
