Whatever the reason, you have to be sure in getting all the necessary permission and approval for your project. If you get this stage of the process wrong, you could be forced to pull down the extension by order of the local council, with no one to foot the bill than you. <\/p>\n

You can get the relevant paperwork from your local council which you\u2019ll need to complete and send back with copies of your drawings. You\u2019ll also be charged a fee. <\/p>\n
Your application will be placed on the local planning register, to be seen by members of the public who can raise objections. If there are any problems it could take more than two months for the plans to be approved so it\u2019s always best to put them in well before you wish to start building work. <\/p>\n
Also, we\u2019d recommend speaking to your neighbours to ensure they\u2019re happy with the plans. They could well cause a stir at a later date, potentially damaging your ideas. <\/p>\n
Even though planning permission won\u2019t apply to everyone, you\u2019ll always need to conform to Building Regulations. For instance, if you are planning a loft conversion you\u2019ll need ventilation, a fire escape and sound insulation for terraced or semi-detached properties. Your neighbours will also need two months\u2019 notice. <\/p>\n
By using a professional company for the work they\u2019ll know all of the regulations, so you can place your faith in them and not have to worry. <\/p>\n
Something a lot of homeowners forget before starting work on their property is to speak with their insurer. You\u2019ll need to check insurance covers incidental damage and the insurer will want to make sure work is completed to a sufficient standard otherwise they may not cover you. <\/p>\n
