It’s Old Stuff Day on 2nd March, and what better time to de-clutter your kitchen? We are all guilty of hanging on to food for too long in our cupboards and having gadgets in our drawers that we never use.<\/p>\n

So where should you start when you decide to clear out all the old stuff in your kitchen? We’ve got 3 tips to help you make the most of Old Stuff Day in your kitchen.<\/p>\n

Step 1: expired food<\/h2>\n

Image via Pinterest<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>You’re taking up unnecessary room in your kitchen with food that you’re never going to eat. Chuck everything out of your fridge that has gone past its expiry date and anything you know you won’t use. Donate some of it if you can.<\/p>\n

Cupboards are the worst. It’s not uncommon for us to find tins that have been sitting there for 5 years or more! Get rid of anything that has been sitting around for far too long and donate anything that you meant to use but never got round to. Then organise your cupboard so you can locate everything quickly and easily.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Tackle the drawers<\/h2>\n

There should be no such thing as a junk drawer these days. The chances are that if it’s in the junk drawer, you don’t need it. Get rid of everything in there that you haven’t taken out in the past 6 months.<\/p>\n

If you seem to have a bottle opener for every day of the week, it’s time to part with some of them too. Try to keep utensils down to 2 at most. You should find that you can locate everything a lot better when your drawers aren’t bulging with multiple vegetable peelers.<\/p>\n

Step 3: Cookbooks<\/h2>\n

A lot of us like to think that we’re experimental cooks and we need all of those different recipe books for inspiration when the mood takes us one evening. But for most, we cook the same meals week-in-week-out, and we only ever use a couple of the many cookbooks we have. <\/p>\n

Donate the books you never use, perhaps writing down some of the recipes you do fancy trying. Keep 2 or 3 recipe books that you can get more use out of.<\/p>\n
