Safety is a top reason to replace an old fuse box. Old fuse boxes are unlikely to have residual circuit devices (RCDs). <\/p>\n

RCDs detect electrical current changes, and disconnect your power supply if it’s too high. So without these components, you and your household are at higher risk of electric shock.<\/p>\n

Old fuse boxes can also increase fire risk. Electrical Safety First<\/a> claims that electricity causes nearly 50% of accidental house fires. Having an old fuse box makes it more likely that a fault will occur, and increases the chances of a house fire.

Modern habits mean that we rely heavily on electrical appliances. Many of us would struggle to make it through the day without a kettle, an electric shower, lighting or a fridge. <\/p>\n

3. Wiring Regulations<\/h3>\n

The UK has wiring regulations to make sure that all electrical installations are safe. The most recent edition of these came out in 2008. It states that all fuse boxes should have residual circuit devices (RCDs). <\/p>\n
