Solar panels aren’t just suitable for homes, but businesses can benefit from the potential of generating free energy throughout the year too. Commercial solar panels are becoming more and more popular all over the UK as a way to cut electricity bills and earn an income with the Government backed feed-in tariff.

Who would benefit from commercial solar panels?

It’s true, the solar panel market is dominated by domestic installations, with homeowners wary about the rising costs of gas and electricity. But commercial installations are just as viable and whether it’s for a business, school or farm, there are a range of benefits to be had. With electricity prices set to rise you can make savings for over 25 years. The feed-in tariff was introduced in April 2010 and works by incentivising solar panels with a direct payment for each unit of renewable electricity produced. It is available to both domestic and commercial solar panels, though different rates apply. Commercial solar panels can earn up to 13.9p/kWh over a 20-year period and excess electricity can be sold to the National Grid too, at 4.5p/kWh.

Commercial solar panel costs

Solar panels range in price quite considerably, from a few hundred pounds to over £1,000 per module. Commercial solar panels come in varying sizes and can be manufactured with up to 1,000 modules. Typically, small business can spend £10,000 on a solar panel installation whilst larger sites can be up to and over the £100,000 mark. However, annual savings and earnings can stretch to £1.5 million over 20 years.

4kWh-10kWh commercial solar panels:

10kWh-50kWh commercial solar panels:
