Choosing the right plasterer is important if you want to ensure you get a good finish to your walls or ceiling.

Resist doing any plastering work yourself, as a professional plasterer is highly skilled and has the qualifications to do a great job.

But if you’ve not had to search for a plasterer before, the task of choosing one good enough to carry out the work can seem daunting.

Just follow our advice on how to hire a great professional to do your plastering work.

Ask your friends, neighbours and family for the details of a good plasterer. This is a great place to start as you know that you can trust what your friend or relative says.

Good plasterers should have reviews online that you can use for your research. Reading reviews will give you a clearer picture about the overall service the plasterer provides.

Quotatis tradesmen have their own profile with independent reviews from genuine Quotatis customers for you to look at. They also get a handy rating out of 5 so you can get a quick idea of how great they are.

The best plasterers will have qualifications like NVQ or City & Guilds certificates in plastering. Most plasterers would be happy to show you evidence of this if you asked.

It’s also a good idea to check that the plasterer has public liability insurance so they are covered in the unlikely event that you have an accident caused by them. You might also want to check how long they have been trading as this can give you an idea of their experience.

Never choose the first plasterer you get a quote from. Find a range of plasterers and make appointments for them to come round and assess the work that needs doing.

Once you’ve been given at least 3 quotes from different plastering companies, you can compare them and decide which one to go with.

Ensure that you’re clear about the work that is going to be carried out before you hire a plasterer. Ask for a detailed quote with the cost of each part of the job, how long it is expected to take and how you will pay for the work.

Don’t be scared to ask the plasterer what would happen if you’re not happy with the work they carry out. A good plasterer will want to show that they do a great job so won’t be afraid to discuss what happens if things go wrong.
