Spring might be here in less than 20 days, but lots of us are experiencing high winds and storms. The most recent one is Storm Jake, which has been battering the south west after travelling across the Atlantic from the US. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, strong winds can do a lot of damage to our roofs, so take a look at our tips to keep your roof secure.<\/p>\n

Maintenance<\/h2>\n

The best way to ensure that you keep your roof secure is regular maintenance and weatherproofing. <\/p>\n

Get your roof checked over every 2 years to ensure that everything is in good order.<\/p>\n

You could time the roof check in with autumn after the leaves have fallen so you can get your gutters cleared at the same time. This will also make sure you don’t get any damp problems over winter. <\/p>\n

But if you haven’t had your roof checked over in a long time, it’s best to have it done sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

When you get your roof looked at, the roofer will be looking for damaged or dislodged roof tiles. They will look at your entire roof and then secure any tiles that look loose and replace those that are broken. <\/p>\n

Hire a good roofer<\/h2>\n

A good roofer will not take long to replace any broken tiles. If you have a slate roof, the roofer might put some new lead beneath the joint before putting the new slate tile on top.<\/p>\n

For a tiled roof, they will unhook the broken tiles from the battens on your roof and replace with new tiles. Any good roofing contractor will have standard tiles and slates on hand, so they should be able to replace them on the same day. <\/p>\n

Don’t worry about the new tiles standing out – they will soon age and match the older tiles on your roof.<\/p>\n

If you haven’t had your roof checked for a while and you’ve been hit by some of the extreme weather this winter, now is a good time to hire a roofer to make sure your roof is secure. <\/p>\n
