There have been major changes to the government\u2019s energy department over the last week, as former Secretary Chris Huhne stepped down and Edward Davey took the reins. But despite the changes to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the same focus remains to grow offshore wind power in the UK. <\/p>\n

Mr Davey said: \u201cThere may have been a change at the helm, but there’ll be no change in direction or ambition,” he said at the Building Research Establishment’s Innovation Park near Watford.

\n\u201cMy priorities are very simple: green jobs, green growth and getting the best deal for energy bill payers.\u201d<\/p>\n

This would include renewable energy, which is one of the fastest growing energy sectors in the world. In the UK, the government are aiming to generate 15% of energy through renewables by 2020. This would be through wind turbines, solar panels, heat pumps and biomass boilers. <\/p>\n

All of the above are significant in cutting carbon dioxide emissions and generating environmentally friendly energy that can be used domestically and commercially. <\/p>\n

To encourage homeowners and businesses to invest in renewable energy technology, the government attached the feed-in tariff to electricity producing systems. The feed-in tariff pays out for every unit of renewable electricity generated and over 25 years you could make a profit of at least \u00a325,000 with a PV solar system. This is a combination of money saved on energy bills and the feed-in tariff. <\/p>\n

And Deputy Prime Minister Clegg says he has every reason to be confident in the continued growth of the green energy sector. He said: \u201cThe combination of enviable wind, wave and tidal power, a world-beating research base and a proud history of engineering give the UK a clear competitive edge.\u201d<\/p>\n
