If you’re looking for CCTV cameras, you have a lot of types to choose from. Box cameras are a popular choice because they’re high performance, long-lasting and a great visual deterrent.
To help you work out if you’d like to install box cameras on your property, we’ve come up with a list of their pros and cons.
Pros
High performance
One reason why property owners choose to buy and install box cameras is because they are high performance. Box cameras tend to feature better optical performance than other types of CCTV camera, so are more helpful if you want to identify people or vehicles.
Long-lasting
Another advantage to box cameras is that they’re long-lasting. This is partly because they’re relatively easy to service and many of their internal components and lenses can be replaced. So by servicing a box camera when necessary, you can make it last a long time.
Robust
Box cameras are also popular because they’re robust. Their protective housing means that they function well in harsh and hostile weather conditions as well as more moderate environments.
Visual deterrent
A big benefit to box cameras is that they’re very effective as a visual deterrent. Their relatively large size means that they’re often very obvious and are good at deterring intruders on your property.
Cons
Expensive
A downside to box cameras is that they’re relatively expensive. They usually cost more than other CCTV surveillance equipment, like bullet and dome cameras.
Bulky
Another disadvantage to box cameras is that they’re fairly bulky. Their housing means that they take up more room than other cameras and are harder to fit into small spaces.
Unattractive
Box cameras can also be unpopular because they’re not particularly attractive. While their bulky casing is good for deterring intruders, it doesn’t make them very nice to look at and means they’re unlikely to blend in.
Require additional lighting
Unfortunately, box cameras don’t perform particularly well in low light. If you want to use one in poor light levels you may need to set up additional lighting close to the camera.
