Wales will not be given more energy policy, as the British Government has said ministers will continue to make decisions on major energy infrastructure.
First Minister of the Welsh Government, Carwyn Jones, said he couldn’t see the sense in Westminster still holding the power.
As it stands the UK Government is responsible for making decisions on renewable energy products above 50 megawatts.
According to Mr Jones, the UK Government are planning more wind farms than the Welsh Government are prepared to build.
The Welsh Government is already under attack from residents about the wind farms built in the controversial TAN 8 Policy.
The TAN 8 Policy decides which areas of land can be used for renewable energy technology. In particular, residents from Mid-Wales have been against the proposals so far.
But Mr Jones said: “There is no sense in my opinion why Scotland and Northern Ireland have the powers that we don’t have in Wales.
“From the discussion that we’ve had recently the only answer that I can give is that the feeling is held by the UK Government that the Welsh Government is too narrow, that TAN 8 is too narrow in its scope and so they want to create additional energy developments and wind developments than we would have allowed under TAN 8.”
The UK Government is looking at commercial wind turbines to be the driving force for the country’s renewable energy targets.
Using renewable energy sources cuts down on carbon emissions, which are responsible for rising levels of global warming.
