As many as a quarter of UK homes are missing out on energy savings because they fail to have suitable insulation. Properties not fitted with insulation suffer from heat loss mainly through the roof, the walls and the windows. In fact, many properties would be entitled to free insulation.
According to a report from Consumer Focus and Energy UK, 18 million people around the country don’t have loft or wall cavity insulation. This is adding hundreds of pounds to yearly energy bills, when investing in insulation is a much more worthwhile solution.
To fight this alarming statistic, Consumer Focus is looking to promote insulation and reduce homeowners’ energy bills in the Big Energy Week.
Citizens Advice says 43% of Britons are worried about not being to afford their next energy bill and all of this could be helped with loft lagging, wall cavity insulation and double glazing.
Mike O’Connor, chief executive of Consumer Focus, says that millions of people are finding it hard to find the money to pay high energy bills. These energy bills are only going to increase over the next few years as gas and electricity wholesale prices rise.
And Mr O’Connor says many homeowners are simply paying a lot more than they should be, by not insulating their homes. Especially during the colder months it’s imperative to insulate your home.
