The shower
If your shower is looking old, a good way to give your bathroom an instant update is to replace it.
This doesn’t mean that you have to replace the whole thing – a new shower head that reduces water consumption is a good idea. You can also replace the cartridge to help with the flow, or replace the riser rail if it’s past its best.
If you don’t have a shower in your bathroom already, an exposed shower is perfect. They are fitted straight onto the wall so you won’t need to go through the disruption of knocking down walls.
The bathroom floor
If you’re on a budget, a good way to update your bathroom can be to change your flooring. Vinyl flooring is a good option as it is durable but much cheaper than tiles. You can get tiled or wooden effect, so you can still get the same look for a fraction of the cost.
Vinyl is so thin that you can fit it around your suite if you’re not fully remodelling. You can even install vinyl tiles over existing tiles, although it’s best to have a professional fit them.

Lighting is another inexpensive way to update your bathroom. Think about an illuminated mirror or lights around a mirror to add more light, or LED downlighters if your budget is bigger.

Improving your storage not only reduces the clutter left in your bathroom but you’ll also make it look more modern. Adding storage on rollers or baskets in showers is inexpensive but stylish. You can buy shower baskets with suction pads so there’s no need to drill into your tiles.

Tiling
Tiling is a job best left to the professionals as it’s difficult to re-tile a wall. Often, the wall comes away when you take off old tiles, so it’s better that you get someone who knows what they’re doing to handle it.
If you just need to restore your grouting to white, there are lots of cleaning products available to do this yourself. And you can reseal the bath and basin, but make sure you have a steady hand!

The suite is probably the most expensive part of your bathroom to replace. But a professional bathroom fitter should be able to replace your bath and basin without a problem, but you might end up with some broken tiles.
If you’ve got old bath panels, you can easily swap these for new ones. So there are ways to keep the costs down even if you want a new-look suite.
