The recent energy price hikes have seen more and more homeowners struggling with their household bills. Gas and electricity prices have been increased by each of the ‘big six’ suppliers, including British Gas, Npower and E.ON.
As such, boosting home energy efficiency is at the top of many people’s improvement list for 2014.
The Government is keen to improve the nation’s efficiency too and with the Green Deal, there’s an opportunity to slash expenses by implementing changes to your property.
Although in 2013 the Green Deal wasn’t hugely popular and many experts claimed it to be a failure, over 100,000 initial assessments have been conducted around the UK. Homeowners haven’t taken advantage of the loans available though, instead preferring to invest themselves and ultimately, reap all financial rewards.
Green Deal research:
- 81% have or intend to have at least one improvement measure completed. This includes loft lagging, wall cavity insulation, double glazing and a replacement boiler. These customers will either take a Green Deal loan or invest their own money
- 78% had confidence in the assessment and what was recommended. On top of this, 76% of those who had assessments suggested they’d recommend a Green Deal assessment to a friend.
Greg Barker, the Energy and Climate Change Minister, said: “The research undertaken in November shows that Green Deal assessments are highly valued by customers. Crucially they are helping people to control their energy costs.
“Over 100,000 assessments have been carried out so it’s particularly encouraging that over 80% of people have, or are intending to install at least one measure.”
The Green Deal Scheme was launched with a significant war chest; over £450 million aimed at households. But because of the loan system the scheme runs, homeowners have opted to instead invest their own money.
Once the insulation measure has been fitted you’ll see instant savings on your energy bills. For loft or wall cavity insulation you can save hundreds of pounds every year, and with a replacement boiler you can cut your expenses by over £300 annually.
