PV solar panels have become an important investment in the UK, helping to save money on energy bills whilst earning homeowners a fixed annual income too. Panels will also add to the value of your home and research shows more and more potential buyers are becoming attracted by properties with the equipment fitted.
So what are the PV solar panels options for you? Well, for domestic installations there are three main sizes depending on the size of your home. Each system will earn the same level of feed-in tariff, with rates currently at 15.4p/kWh, whilst energy savings will ultimately depend on the size system you opt for.
2kWh solar panels
The 2kW system is the smallest of the three domestic installations available for homeowners. Typically you should invest in this solar panel system if you live in a smaller home, such as a one or two bedroomed property or flat. The Energy Saving Trust suggests installation costs for the 2kW are around £5,770, whilst annual savings are expected to be £371.
3kWh solar panels
The 3kW PV solar panels are a slight step-up from the 2kW, providing more electricity throughout the year. As a result you should give consideration to this size if you live in a three bedroomed semi-detached home. The Energy Saving Trust predicts the average install costs at £6,430, whilst annual savings and earnings should come to around £539. Over 20 years you could be close to doubling your investment, whilst adding value to your home as well.
4kWh solar panels

This is the largest of the PV solar panels options available for domestic use and typically the most popular. Generating high levels of electricity you will probably need a four bedroom detached property to get the most benefits from such a size. As you would expect, the 4kW offers the most financial reward, at around £700 each year, whilst installation costs can fetch up to £7,000.
4kWh+ solar panels
Anything larger than the 4kW system and you’re entering the commercial solar panels market. Typically you’ll see larger systems for businesses, industries, farms and schools. Systems can cost anywhere between £10,000 and £100,000 whilst there’s the potential to earn over £1 million in the solar panel system’s lifetime.
