Parquet flooring has long been thought of as the polished dark wood you might see in a stately home, but this is no longer the case. There are lots of different styles available today, so you can use it anywhere in your home.
There are plenty of ways to use parquet flooring, and we’re going to show you how you can use it anywhere in your home.
1. The bedroom
The bedroom is a great place to have parquet flooring. It’s perfect for allergy sufferers as it won’t hold dust and allergens like carpet does.
Try a cool-coloured parquet floor with neutral walls. It will make the room seem peaceful and tranquil and will still feel warm under your feet. Choose a bed with feet so you can take full advantage of the beautiful patterns the floor makes.

2. The kitchen
In the kitchen, you can go two ways with parquet. If you’re not keen on the dark shades that parquet often brings, try a light colour with white or lighter colour cabinets to give your kitchen a cool feel.
Alternatively, you could go bold. Try a dark stained parquet to make a statement. If you have white cabinets in your kitchen, the results can be stunning – especially if you pair them with a deep green or blue. The darkness in the floor will bring out the colours.
3. The living room
Parquet flooring looks classic in the living room. Pair light furniture and interiors with dark floor to make a beautiful statement.

But if you’re a traditionalist, you can’t go wrong with an oiled oak parquet.
In this living room, the colour stretches through the room and elongates the space. It also adds a warmness to an otherwise cool room.
4. Go large
Whatever room you decide to put parquet flooring in, consider going big. Oversized parquet opens up an open plan space and can feel calming. A great way to use oversized parquet is to use a medium colour with darker pieces running through it.

5. Go glossy
Don’t think you have to go for the traditional wood look for parquet. In a bedroom, a painted glossy parquet floor can look stunning and add a modern feel to the room.
In a kid’s bedroom, why not paint it different shades of the main bedroom?
