It’s the school half-term so no doubt the kids are getting under your feet and not giving you a moment’s peace. Why not take the opportunity to get away from the action and do some of those much needed jobs around the home?
From clearing up the garden, to starting that renovation project, there’s plenty to get going on with no matter your budget. And if you don’t fancy doing the work yourself, you could always bring in an expert to do a brilliant job for you.
1). Tackle DIY jobs
Got some jobs you’ve been putting off for weeks? Well take the time in the half-term week to get these chores out of the way. This could be decorating a room in your home, unblocking a drain or even clearing out the garage or shed. Jobs tend to build up for many homeowners, so don’t keep putting them off and instead get the tools out.
2). Take to the garden
Is your garden in desperate need of a little TLC? Whether the grass has grown too long, your hedges need trimming or weeds have sprouted between your patio slabs, get into the garden and sort it out. There’s a lot of satisfaction in sorting the garden and whilst it can be a hassle, it’ll look great when you’ve finished. Even consider buying plants and flowers to give the garden a fresh look.
3). Tend to the driveway
Is your driveway looking a little old and tired? No matter the material, whether it’s gravel, tarmac or even paving slabs, updating the driveway is a great way to improve the kerb appeal of your property. Installing a brand new driveway won’t be as costly as you’d imagine either and the job can be completed in less than a day. Gravel driveways offer a cheaper way to change the appeal if you’re on a budget, whilst tarmac is probably the quickest material to lay.
4) Start your renovation
Do you have plans that have been in the pipeline for months but you’ve not found the time to kick off the project? Whether you want to refurbish the kitchen, add an extension or even convert the loft or garage into living space, use this time of the year to get your plans underway. You can add thousands of pounds to your property with the right project, whilst avoiding the need to relocate for more space.
5). Reduce your energy bills
Did you know your energy bills have increased by 160% in the last decade? Despite Labour’s plans to freeze energy prices for 20 months if they get into power in 2015, your bills are still likely to be over £1,500 a year. Avoid all the hoo-ha of politics and do something about the energy crisis yourself. With solar panels you can generate your own free electricity, whilst replacing your boiler or fitting double glazing will help to cut bills by hundreds of pounds annually.
