Appleby-in-Westmorland is a market community and civil parish in the Eden district, in the management county of Cumbria, in North West England. The church had a population of 3,048 in 2011. It lies in a loop of the River Eden in the historical area of Westmorland, of which it was the county town. Its name was simply Appleby until the city government modifications of 1974. When a successor parish was formed from the former district, the council altered its name to videotape that of the historical area.
