Asbestos removal is a vital process in UK properties. For construction reasons asbestos was once very well liked in the Uk largely because of its insulation attributes. But with related health risks the Government enforced a ban on its use in 2006.
Despite this you will still find numerous houses with asbestos use within the ceilings and walls. And the effects of long term exposure can be extremely damaging for your health, with two types of lung cancer related with asbestos.
If you'd like to have asbestos removed from your own home, a Health and Safety Executive will carry out an assessment to find out if it is present. If this is the case it has to be a priority to have removed, because if you become clinically determined to have an asbestos linked condition it can often be too far gone.
For your own personel safety, be sure to work with our service to look at quotes from experts close to you. We'll match your requirements with as many as four companies so you're able to be given a totally free quotation for the work and take the issue from there.
Asbestos removal costs fluctuate according to the amount of material you have that needs removing, how easy it is to access and remove, and your location. However, the average price for an asbestos removal project in the UK is about £800.

Cowes is an English seaport community and civil parish on the Island of Wight. Cowes is situated on the west financial institution of the estuary of the River Medina, dealing with the smaller town of East Cowes on the eastern bank. The two communities are connected by the Cowes Drifting Bridge, a chain ferry. The population was 9,663 in the 2001 census, which doubled during the regatta in very early August. For some types of asbestos, you are not legally required to use a licensed contractor. However, it’s recommended that you always use one. These contractors will have all the relevant training and knowledge to make sure asbestos is removed safely. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the licensing body.
Asbestos refers to a group of minerals made up of tiny fibres. If you become exposed to these fibres and breathe them in, you’re at risk of contracting a dangerous lung-related disease.
Asbestos is strong and a good insulator, which means it was previously used to insulate and reinforce parts of buildings, like ceilings, roofs and guttering. Its use has been banned in the UK since 2000, but it is still present in lots of domestic and commercial buildings today.
Asbestos usually only poses a health risk if the material it’s contained in is damaged and its fibres are released into the air.
If you’re thinking about having your asbestos removed, you have two options - either you take on the project yourself or you call in a reliable professional for help. If you do not have enough time on your plate or perhaps you’re not confident enough to carry out this project on your own, then you’d have to reach out to an expert and of course, it comes with a cost.
The cost of removing asbestos is, however, not fixed as it depends on many factors. These factors works to decrease or increase the cost of removing asbestos. The factors include the type of asbestos material that needs to be removed, if the material can be encapsulated rather than removed, if the material has been sampled and tested, the location where the works would be carried out, size of the area, the accessibility of the asbestos, if other sites users or neighbours will be affected as well as the type of the building be it residential, commercial, industrial.
With a plethora of important things to put into consideration, it’s therefore essential to call in a qualified, competent and professional asbestos removal company to provide a reasonable quote for your unique project. Generally, in the UK, you can expect to pay the approximate cost of around £1000 or less for smaller areas. However, for larger areas the cost of removing such an asbestos will cost you considerably more. The cost can be within the range of £2500 and above in the UK.
These prices may seem high at first but its definitely worth it when you look at it’s possible effect on the health of you and your loved ones.
In some situations, it is possible to remove asbestos from your home without holding a licence. However, unless you’ve had training on working with asbestos, it’s not a good idea to do the work yourself. In these cases, you’ll need to make sure you wear complete protective clothing, including a face mask and overalls, and disturb the material as little as possible. You’ll also need to find out the best place to dispose of your asbestos here [https://www.gov.uk/asbestos-in-home], and get rid of your protective clothing in the same place.
However, in many cases you’ll need a licence to do an asbestos removal job, so will need to call in a professional. This is also almost always the safest way to remove your asbestos too, so is generally the best option to go for.
