Asbestos removal is an important process in UK properties. For building purposes asbestos was previously popular in the Uk mostly for its insulating qualities. However with related health risks the Government enforced a ban on its use in 2006.
Regardless of this you will still find countless properties with asbestos use within the ceilings and walls. And the results of extented exposure can be quite detrimental for your health, with two types of lung cancer linked with asbestos.
If you want to get asbestos removed from your house, a Health and Safety Executive will conduct an evaluation to find out if it's present. If this is the case it should be essential to have removed, because if you become diagnosed with an asbestos linked illness it will often be too late.
For your safety, make sure to make use of our service to review prices from specialists locally. We'll match your requirements with up to four companies so that you can receive a cost-free quote for the work and take the matter from there.
Asbestos removal costs fluctuate according to the amount of material you have that needs removing, how easy it is to access and remove, and your location. However, the average price for an asbestos removal project in the UK is about £800.

Etchingham (population 806) is a town and civil church in the Rother district of East Sussex in southern England. The town is located approximately 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent and 13 miles (21 kilometres) northwest of Hastings, on the A265, half a mile west of its junction with the A21. Etchingham train station gets on the Hastings Line to London Charing Cross and Cannon Street. Etchingham was an estate a very long time before the Norman conquest of 1066; after this time the manor was taken over by the Normans. In 1166 it was left to the de Achyngham (Etchingham) family members, who were popular landowners of the time. The Etchingham household documents record that William was so delighted with his right-hand man that he provided him the land currently referred to as Etchingham. The moated manor house, time out of mind knocked down, stood at the point currently inhabited by the London to Hastings railway line. A few of the rock from the manor was probably made use of in the building and construction of the station buildings. There is one legend that a great bell lay at the end of the moat surrounding the church and also manor, which it would certainly never ever be seen until six yoke of white oxen were brought to drag it up. Centuries have actually gone by, the moat is long gone and also no bell has actually emerged. The 14th-century church was initially built within the grounds of the manor; evidence of the moat can still be seen.

Can I Remove Asbestos Myself?
If you’re an individual who owns or control buildings, you’re required by the law to carry out asbestos management and reasonably so. Asbestos is a very dangerous and life threatening material which comes with a host of potential diseases related to exposure and therefore, it’s required to be removed from any building once discovered.
Majority of these diseases are not treated and in the UK alone, there has been about 4,500 deaths per year that has been attributable to asbestos exposure. Hence, this explains why this topic is considered crucial to the legislators.
When it comes to asbestos containing materials removal, this should only be done if necessary and ultimately, only by a person who possesses the skills, knowledge and expertise to make sure that the removal is done safely and to the highest possible standards. Exposure to asbestos poses great health risks. And although when left alone the material can only cause little harm, but the real threat comes when disturbed which implies that asbestos removal is a gravely dangerous process if not handle with skill and care.
Due to this fact, the law has taken a very serious stance that only skilled specialist are allowed to handle the task. Therefore, if you want to know if you can undertake this task by yourself, it’s important to consult your local authority to know the stance of the law in your state. We’d however recommend that you do not attempt this by yourself as the dangers are simply too much. The cost of asbestos containing materials removal can be somewhat costly, but when you look at the threat it poses to both you and your loved ones, you’d realize that it’s worth the price.
How To Dispose Of Asbestos?
As a homeowner, you certainly wouldn’t like to the word “asbestos” and understandably so. Due to its extremely dangerous fibres, the material was banned in the UK since 1999 and any structure built with it will be heavily fined. However, if you’re presently doing some home improvement project or buying a property that was built before the year 2000, then a chance exists that the property could contain asbestos. So if you’re unlucky to discover asbestos in your property, getting rid of it can be quite simple if you know way around it. In this article, we’ll provide you with some tips on how to dispose of asbestos in your property. Let’s take a closer look!
✓ Careful Handling
If you happen to find asbestos in your property the best thing to do is to call in a reliable specialist who has the proper training and equipment to tackle the project. However, if you decide to handle it yourself, then it’s a must to do this with great care. For instance wearing safety gloves, dust mask, safety goggles and placement of asbestos into plastic bags would be a great idea.
✓ Take It To The Tip By Yourself
To save some money if you have access to a vehicle, then loading the bagged asbestos into your car and driving it to the nearest local tip would be a simple and cost effective alternative. However, you should check with your local authorities before attempting this.
✓ Use A Specialist
Hiring a professional asbestos removal contractor is simply the best way to dispose of asbestos. Their services may be a bit expensive, but they cover up for that in both speed and effectiveness.
✓ Use Your Council’s Asbestos Collection Service
Several councils off this services at a reduced cost. However, they are usually not as quick as a specialist contractor.
Is Asbestos Dangerous?
The short and simple answer to this question is yes, asbestos is absolutely dangerous. Exposure to asbestos fibres and dust can lead to cancer, lung disease and lots more. It’s known to be so dangerous that no level of exposure to asbestos is considered safe. It has been banned in the UK since 1999 but exposure is till rampant due to the exceptions to the ban and there’s a good chance that you’ll find it in several older buildings and homes. And despite the ban in most countries, asbestos related health issues are still on the rise across the globe. People that are mostly exposed to this risk are those who’re exposed on the job as well as those who simply like to take on projects around the house containing asbestos insulation by themselves.
Furthermore, there’s a need to observe safety precautions when working with asbestos. If not, you’ll be exposing both you and your family to long term health risks. Below are some of the things you need to know about the dangers of asbestos.
✓ Exposure to asbestos fibres has no safe level. So it’s best to avoid exposure at all costs.
✓ Breathing in asbestos dust can lead to lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma.
✓ If disturbed, asbestos can release dangerous particles of dust containing asbestos fibres.
✓ Mesothelioma is a type of cancer which mostly affects the lung’s lining. It has no cure.
✓ If you smoke, then the risk of inhaling asbestos is greatly increased.
✓ The number of fibres inhaled as well as the length of time that you’ve been exposed to it increases the risk of contracting asbestos related diseases.
✓ The symptoms of asbestos dust related diseases do not commonly come out until its about 20 to 30 years after the first exposure.
Asbestos refers to a group of minerals made up of tiny fibres. If you become exposed to these fibres and breathe them in, you’re at risk of contracting a dangerous lung-related disease.
Asbestos is strong and a good insulator, which means it was previously used to insulate and reinforce parts of buildings, like ceilings, roofs and guttering. Its use has been banned in the UK since 2000, but it is still present in lots of domestic and commercial buildings today.
Asbestos usually only poses a health risk if the material it’s contained in is damaged and its fibres are released into the air.
