Asbestos removal is a crucial process in UK houses. For building reasons asbestos used to be quite popular in the United Kingdom largely for its insulating attributes. However with connected health risks the Government imposed a ban on its use in 2006.
In spite of this you can still find numerous houses with asbestos use in the ceilings and walls. And the consequences of extented exposure can be very detrimental to your health, with two kinds of lung cancer connected with asbestos.
If you'd like to get asbestos removed from your property, a Health and Safety Executive will perform an assessment to determine if it's present. Mirfield is a small twon and civil parish in Kirklees in the English county of West Yorkshire. From 1894 to 1974, the town was an urban district in the West Riding of Yorkshire till it ended up being incorporated into the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees. According to the 2011 Census, the town has a population of around 19563. During the course of the 18th century, a canal was built throughout the town that linked the River Calder with other rivers in the area. There are numerous prominent landmarks littered all over the town. St. Mary's Church was the town's first church, dating back to the 13th century. Regardless of the fact that restoration work took place on the structure in 1826, it was determined that is was not adequate to cater for the increasing population, triggering the development of plans for a new church. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, the brand-new church was constructed on the site of Castle Hall, a mansion the home of the families of Mirfields, Hetons and Beaumonts. Mirfield is also home to the College of the Resurrection, which is a Church of England theological college. Rowan Williams, who later came to be the Archbishop of Canterbury, was a lecturer at the college between 1975 and 1977, and it is the place where Archbishop Trevor Huddleston spent his last days. The canal that goes through the town forms a segment of the Calder and Hebble Navigation. The canal's construction caused the growth and establishment of a number of markets in Mirfield, with the fabrics and boat yards as some examples. Although the canal no longer has an economic use, it is often used by recreational users. For all of your home upgrades, make sure to make use of trusted contractors in Mirfield to make certain of quality.

Asbestos fibres are very small, so they’re not possible to identify with the naked eye. However, they’re common in particular materials of a certain age, so you can work out if there are any parts of a building that are likely to contain asbestos.
Start by checking the date that the material you suspect contains asbestos was installed. If it was in 2000 or after then you don’t need to worry, it definitely doesn’t contain asbestos. However, if it was fitted before 2000 it may contain asbestos, particularly if this was between 1940 and 1980.
Materials that used to commonly contain asbestos include ceiling tiles, guttering, soffits, fascia, external cladding and facades, vinyl flooring, artex, cement roofs and insulation.
What Does Asbestos Cause?
The perfect example of a silent killer is asbestos. Wonder why? From the day of exposure, you might not see any symptoms of the asbestos containing material disease till years later and more often than not, these disease are not treatable. And as dangerous at it is, it’s most likely not something you’d think about on a daily basis unless you’ve been affected by this harmful material or probably someone you know has.
Found in rocks and soils, asbestos have been an important material for manufacturers across the globe for numerous reasons. Not only are they exceptional insulation materials in both electrical and buildings, but they’re also flexible and resistant to heat, chemicals as well as electricity. And due to this fact, they represent a very common material that’s used in automotive parts, construction materials as well as textiles.
Asbestos when disturbed and inhaled for a long period of time can significantly increase your risk for diseases such as lung cancer, mesothelioma as well as asbestosis. Smokers are more likely feel a greater impact as cigarette smoke irritates lung passages which makes it a lot more difficult for the lungs to remove asbestos fibres.
Mesothelioma. This is a form of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs as well as the lining surrounding the lower digestive tract. By the time diagnosed, it’s almost always fatal.
Lung Cancer. This asbestos related lung cancer is almost the same with that caused by smoking and other causes.
Abestosis. This is a serious scarring condition of the lung which usually occurs after exposure to asbestos after a lengthy period. It can lead to shortness of breath, and in some cases, can be fatal.
How To Dispose Of Asbestos?
As a homeowner, you certainly wouldn’t like to the word “asbestos” and understandably so. Due to its extremely dangerous fibres, the material was banned in the UK since 1999 and any structure built with it will be heavily fined. However, if you’re presently doing some home improvement project or buying a property that was built before the year 2000, then a chance exists that the property could contain asbestos. So if you’re unlucky to discover asbestos in your property, getting rid of it can be quite simple if you know way around it. In this article, we’ll provide you with some tips on how to dispose of asbestos in your property. Let’s take a closer look!
✓ Careful Handling
If you happen to find asbestos in your property the best thing to do is to call in a reliable specialist who has the proper training and equipment to tackle the project. However, if you decide to handle it yourself, then it’s a must to do this with great care. For instance wearing safety gloves, dust mask, safety goggles and placement of asbestos into plastic bags would be a great idea.
✓ Take It To The Tip By Yourself
To save some money if you have access to a vehicle, then loading the bagged asbestos into your car and driving it to the nearest local tip would be a simple and cost effective alternative. However, you should check with your local authorities before attempting this.
✓ Use A Specialist
Hiring a professional asbestos removal contractor is simply the best way to dispose of asbestos. Their services may be a bit expensive, but they cover up for that in both speed and effectiveness.
✓ Use Your Council’s Asbestos Collection Service
Several councils off this services at a reduced cost. However, they are usually not as quick as a specialist contractor.
If you find out there’s asbestos in your property, it’s not always necessary to remove it. Asbestos is relatively low-risk if it’s contained in a material. This means that, if the material it’s in is in good condition, it shouldn’t be a problem.
However, if a material containing asbestos is damaged, or you want to remove, sand or drill into it, it’s best to have it removed by a licensed professional.
