Asbestos removing is a crucial process in UK properties. For construction purposes asbestos was once very popular in the Uk largely for the insulating attributes. However with associated health risks the Government imposed a ban on its use in 2006.
In spite of this you will still find countless houses with asbestos use within the ceilings and walls. And the outcomes of prolonged exposure can be quite harmful to your health, with two kinds of lung cancer connected with asbestos.

On the A701 lies Penicuik (pronounced 'Pennycook despite its spelling), a town in Midlothian, Scotland with a population of around 15,700. Positioned in between Edinburgh and Peebles, the settlement was developed as a planned village in 1770 by Sir James Clerk of Penicuik, ending up being a burgh in 1867. Its initial local industry were its well-known paper mills, with the last of these closing down in 2004. The town name, Penicuik, is originated from 'Pen Y Cog', meaning directly, 'Hill of the Cuckoo' in Ancient British. The town does have its international links, and is twinned with the town of L'îsle-sur-la-Sourge in France. The first occasion of the reference of the town was in 1296. Thomas Rymer's text Foedera mentions a 'Walter Edgar a person Penicok south of Edenburgh', and is exactly what the town's name evolved from and into today's spelling. Pennycook, another step on the ladder of Penicuik's spelling evolution, appears on John Adair's map from 1862. Nevertheless, in the background of the town itself, full growth commenced when the Cowan family arrived around 1770, and brought the business of their paper mill. This brought the demand for homes for workers, leading to general population increasing to 1,700 by 1800. Penicuik was additionally used as the site of a prison camp for soldiers from the French Napoleonic wars, but in our present day, it is presently the site of a housing development. Nevertheless, a monument dated back to 1830 honours the 309 detainees who perished there through the years 1811-1814. For all your house upgrades, make sure to make use of reliable specialists in Penicuik to make certain of quality.

Asbestos collection and disposal Asbestos Garage Solutions were a professional company who dealt with my requirements speedily and efficiently.
Asbestos fibres are very small, so they’re not possible to identify with the naked eye. However, they’re common in particular materials of a certain age, so you can work out if there are any parts of a building that are likely to contain asbestos.
Start by checking the date that the material you suspect contains asbestos was installed. If it was in 2000 or after then you don’t need to worry, it definitely doesn’t contain asbestos. However, if it was fitted before 2000 it may contain asbestos, particularly if this was between 1940 and 1980.
Materials that used to commonly contain asbestos include ceiling tiles, guttering, soffits, fascia, external cladding and facades, vinyl flooring, artex, cement roofs and insulation.
If you’re thinking about having your asbestos removed, you have two options - either you take on the project yourself or you call in a reliable professional for help. If you do not have enough time on your plate or perhaps you’re not confident enough to carry out this project on your own, then you’d have to reach out to an expert and of course, it comes with a cost.
The cost of removing asbestos is, however, not fixed as it depends on many factors. These factors works to decrease or increase the cost of removing asbestos. The factors include the type of asbestos material that needs to be removed, if the material can be encapsulated rather than removed, if the material has been sampled and tested, the location where the works would be carried out, size of the area, the accessibility of the asbestos, if other sites users or neighbours will be affected as well as the type of the building be it residential, commercial, industrial.
With a plethora of important things to put into consideration, it’s therefore essential to call in a qualified, competent and professional asbestos removal company to provide a reasonable quote for your unique project. Generally, in the UK, you can expect to pay the approximate cost of around £1000 or less for smaller areas. However, for larger areas the cost of removing such an asbestos will cost you considerably more. The cost can be within the range of £2500 and above in the UK.
These prices may seem high at first but its definitely worth it when you look at it’s possible effect on the health of you and your loved ones.
What Does Asbestos Cause?
The perfect example of a silent killer is asbestos. Wonder why? From the day of exposure, you might not see any symptoms of the asbestos containing material disease till years later and more often than not, these disease are not treatable. And as dangerous at it is, it’s most likely not something you’d think about on a daily basis unless you’ve been affected by this harmful material or probably someone you know has.
Found in rocks and soils, asbestos have been an important material for manufacturers across the globe for numerous reasons. Not only are they exceptional insulation materials in both electrical and buildings, but they’re also flexible and resistant to heat, chemicals as well as electricity. And due to this fact, they represent a very common material that’s used in automotive parts, construction materials as well as textiles.
Asbestos when disturbed and inhaled for a long period of time can significantly increase your risk for diseases such as lung cancer, mesothelioma as well as asbestosis. Smokers are more likely feel a greater impact as cigarette smoke irritates lung passages which makes it a lot more difficult for the lungs to remove asbestos fibres.
Mesothelioma. This is a form of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs as well as the lining surrounding the lower digestive tract. By the time diagnosed, it’s almost always fatal.
Lung Cancer. This asbestos related lung cancer is almost the same with that caused by smoking and other causes.
Abestosis. This is a serious scarring condition of the lung which usually occurs after exposure to asbestos after a lengthy period. It can lead to shortness of breath, and in some cases, can be fatal.
If you find out there’s asbestos in your property, it’s not always necessary to remove it. Asbestos is relatively low-risk if it’s contained in a material. This means that, if the material it’s in is in good condition, it shouldn’t be a problem.
However, if a material containing asbestos is damaged, or you want to remove, sand or drill into it, it’s best to have it removed by a licensed professional.
