Asbestos fiber was once highly employed in building as an insulating product, holding heat and keeping out the cold. However, since 2006 Government policies have ordered the removal of these asbestos materials because of health associated complications.

Right now there are four very severe health problems tied in with long term asbestos fiber exposure, including 2 types of lung cancer.

A Health and Safety Executive licenced company in Shildon will go to your property and carry out a comprehensive survey to ascertain if asbestos fiber can be seen in the building. This means it might take days to thoroughly sweep the building and eliminate asbestos traces.

In spite of this, it's nevertheless a high priority to get the products removed, because once diagnosed with an asbestos fiber linked illness it'll often be too late, proving to be fatal.

We intend to provide simply no obligation quotations from companies in Shildon who will be able to offer you zero cost surveys for the elimination of asbestos. Then you're able to review these quotations and decide on the right asbestos fibers removing company for your building.

Shildon is a town in Area Durham, in England. It is situated around 2 miles (3.2 km) south east of Bishop Auckland, 11 miles (18 km) north of Darlington, 13 miles (21 kilometres) from Durham, 23 miles (37 km) from Sunderland as well as 23 miles (37 km) from Newcastle upon Tyne. Shildon is component of the Bishop Auckland legislative constituency. According to the 2011 Census, the community has a long-term population of around 9,976 people. Shildon's earliest settlers were groups of people who lived throughout the Mesolithic period some 6,000 years ago. They lived by gathering wild plants and also hunting wild animals. There was a tiny ancient flint tool discovered in the Brusselton area which might have been of this day. The Shildon location owes much of its development to the rise of the East Durham coalfields in the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th and also very early 19th century. In the beginning static engines drew the wagons, however were replaced by relocating engines on railways. Shildon is considered to be the 'cradle of the railways'. The town expanded when the Stockton and Darlington Railway established its workshops in 1825. Steam engines such as the Sans Pareil and Royal George were constructed there. By 1855, it was a large complicated of workshops and other structures. After the Second Globe Battle, Shildon had among the biggest sidings complicateds in Europe. The Shildon Functions eventually closed in 1984. The site currently houses Shildon Locomotion Museum, which opened in September 2004 and also is an extension of the National Railway Museum. For all of your house enhancements, make sure to recognize trustworthy experts in Shildon to ensure of high quality.

how to dispose of asbestos?

How To Dispose Of Asbestos?

As a homeowner, you certainly wouldn’t like to the word “asbestos” and understandably so. Due to its extremely dangerous fibres, the material was banned in the UK since 1999 and any structure built with it will be heavily fined. However, if you’re presently doing some home improvement project or buying a property that was built before the year 2000, then a chance exists that the property could contain asbestos. So if you’re unlucky to discover asbestos in your property, getting rid of it can be quite simple if you know way around it. In this article, we’ll provide you with some tips on how to dispose of asbestos in your property. Let’s take a closer look!

✓ Careful Handling

If you happen to find asbestos in your property the best thing to do is to call in a reliable specialist who has the proper training and equipment to tackle the project. However, if you decide to handle it yourself, then it’s a must to do this with great care. For instance wearing safety gloves, dust mask, safety goggles and placement of asbestos into plastic bags would be a great idea.

✓ Take It To The Tip By Yourself

To save some money if you have access to a vehicle, then loading the bagged asbestos into your car and driving it to the nearest local tip would be a simple and cost effective alternative. However, you should check with your local authorities before attempting this.

✓ Use A Specialist

Hiring a professional asbestos removal contractor is simply the best way to dispose of asbestos. Their services may be a bit expensive, but they cover up for that in both speed and effectiveness.

✓ Use Your Council’s Asbestos Collection Service

Several councils off this services at a reduced cost. However, they are usually not as quick as a specialist contractor.

can i remove asbestos myself?

Can I Remove Asbestos Myself?

If you’re an individual who owns or control buildings, you’re required by the law to carry out asbestos management and reasonably so. Asbestos is a very dangerous and life threatening material which comes with a host of potential diseases related to exposure and therefore, it’s required to be removed from any building once discovered.

Majority of these diseases are not treated and in the UK alone, there has been about 4,500 deaths per year that has been attributable to asbestos exposure. Hence, this explains why this topic is considered crucial to the legislators.

When it comes to asbestos containing materials removal, this should only be done if necessary and ultimately, only by a person who possesses the skills, knowledge and expertise to make sure that the removal is done safely and to the highest possible standards. Exposure to asbestos poses great health risks. And although when left alone the material can only cause little harm, but the real threat comes when disturbed which implies that asbestos removal is a gravely dangerous process if not handle with skill and care.

Due to this fact, the law has taken a very serious stance that only skilled specialist are allowed to handle the task. Therefore, if you want to know if you can undertake this task by yourself, it’s important to consult your local authority to know the stance of the law in your state. We’d however recommend that you do not attempt this by yourself as the dangers are simply too much. The cost of asbestos containing materials removal can be somewhat costly, but when you look at the threat it poses to both you and your loved ones, you’d realize that it’s worth the price.

is asbestos dangerous?

Is Asbestos Dangerous?

The short and simple answer to this question is yes, asbestos is absolutely dangerous. Exposure to asbestos fibres and dust can lead to cancer, lung disease and lots more. It’s known to be so dangerous that no level of exposure to asbestos is considered safe. It has been banned in the UK since 1999 but exposure is till rampant due to the exceptions to the ban and there’s a good chance that you’ll find it in several older buildings and homes. And despite the ban in most countries, asbestos related health issues are still on the rise across the globe. People that are mostly exposed to this risk are those who’re exposed on the job as well as those who simply like to take on projects around the house containing asbestos insulation by themselves.

Furthermore, there’s a need to observe safety precautions when working with asbestos. If not, you’ll be exposing both you and your family to long term health risks. Below are some of the things you need to know about the dangers of asbestos.

✓ Exposure to asbestos fibres has no safe level. So it’s best to avoid exposure at all costs.

✓ Breathing in asbestos dust can lead to lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma.

✓ If disturbed, asbestos can release dangerous particles of dust containing asbestos fibres.

✓ Mesothelioma is a type of cancer which mostly affects the lung’s lining. It has no cure.

✓ If you smoke, then the risk of inhaling asbestos is greatly increased.

✓ The number of fibres inhaled as well as the length of time that you’ve been exposed to it increases the risk of contracting asbestos related diseases.

✓ The symptoms of asbestos dust related diseases do not commonly come out until its about 20 to 30 years after the first exposure.

What is asbestos?

Asbestos refers to a group of minerals made up of tiny fibres. If you become exposed to these fibres and breathe them in, you’re at risk of contracting a dangerous lung-related disease.

Asbestos is strong and a good insulator, which means it was previously used to insulate and reinforce parts of buildings, like ceilings, roofs and guttering. Its use has been banned in the UK since 2000, but it is still present in lots of domestic and commercial buildings today.

Asbestos usually only poses a health risk if the material it’s contained in is damaged and its fibres are released into the air.
