My bedroom roof got damp marks. Need to fix that.
Extensions including garage conversions will typically require supplementary damp proofing to be added during the conversion, as the existing garage will typically have a single skin design for walls and floors, which was not designed to conform to building regulations for habitable rooms. This damp proofing should be put into walls and floors. Moreover, the roofing of the garage conversion will need water proofing. The damp proofing of the floor of the garage conversion will in most cases be achieved by using a damp proof membrane. This membrane will come in either solid or liquid form. The damp proof membrane will be put down either on top of the pre-existing concrete floor, underneath the new floor, or as part of both, depending on if the floor will be a solid or a floating floor. In a few garages, the walls have already been damp proofed, but this may have to be updated as part of the conversion to be able to meet current building regulations. The walls should be damp proofed in order to protect the brickwork from rotting gradually as moisture sets in. This can be carried out by either employing damp proof membranes, waterproof rendering, or cavity insulation, depending on the type of walls that are already in the garage. Damp proofing is a part of the building regulations that the garage conversion will need to comply with, and so is it necessary to make sure that your garage conversion makes use of suitable damp proofing methods.
The average cost of Damp proofing is £1500. Costs vary based upon the materials and the organisation selected. The upper price range can be as high as £1725. The material costs are in general about £375

Battersea is a residential district of south London in the London Borough of Wandsworth. It's 4.8 km south west of Charing Cross. The district has one of southwest London’s major parks, Battersea Park.
In 2001, Battersea had a human population of 75,651, but by 2011 the number stood at 73,345, noting a modest reduction. There's a substantial area of public housing estates built in the mid-20th century, almost all situated north of the principal railway lines from Fairfield to Queenstown. There are 4 considerably significant estates; Surrey Lane Estate to the north, Doddington and Rollo Estate, Patmore Estate towards the east and also the Winstanley Estate, which is known for being the birthplace of the garage collective So Solid Crew.
There are a variety of notable landmarks in Battersea, one of that is the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. Prior to that, the Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs was primarily based in Battersea just after moving from Holloway in 1871. Other landmarks include the New Covent Garden Market, a significant vegetable and fruit wholesale marketplace, plus the now disused Battersea Power Station which was constructed between 1929 and 1939. There have already been numerous redevelopment projects since the 1980s to convert the station into an entertainment and commercial centre, but to date all attempts have failed.

Signs of rising damp tend to be close to the ground, usually no higher than a metre. It usually works its way up walls in horizontal lines. Penetrating damp usually develops in patches and can often be much higher up. For more advice, speak to a damp proofing professional.
You should make sure that all signs of damp have gone before you redecorate your walls. If you want to paint your walls with a water-permeable emulsion paint, you can usually do this after 1 or 2 months. For other types of decoration you should wait longer.
There are a few visible signs of damp, although it often goes undetected. However, in older or empty properties, this made become detectable through its smell. These include peeling paint and wallpaper, crumbling plaster, mould growth, black spots or spores on walls and ceilings, and rotting skirting boards and flooring.
Damp is a serious problem, particularly if you live in an old property, because it can lead to structural damage. This will cost you big money and could be very dangerous, to yourself and the property. Take damp seriously and get it inspected and resolved as soon as you discover it!
