North Walsham

North Walsham is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. Primarily for the purposes of local authorities, the town is a part of the North Norfolk district. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of 12634 residing in the 6.67 square miles. North Walsham lies 7.5 miles south of Cromer and 7.5 miles north of Wroxham. The town is served by North Walsham train station, allowing quick access to Norwich, Cromer and Sheringham. The town lies on the B1145, which is a road running between King's Lynn and Mundesley. It began to flourish from the 12th century thanks to the arrival of weavers from Flanders. The name of the town comes from the textiles produced by the weavers. 'Walsham' pertained to a light-weight cloth for summertime clothing. The large 14th-century 'wool churches' are stunning illustrations of the success of the local mill owners. North Walsham's church of St. Nicholas is among the UK's largest parish churches, alongside having the 2nd tallest steeple in Norfolk till its collapse in 1724. Its ruins are a standout feature of the town centre and it is now an acknowledged landmark of the region. The North Walsham and Dilham Canal, owned by the North Walsham Canal Company, ran from Antingham Mill to a point before Honing, which followed the course of the River Ant. The town has been the home of a number of cinemas over the 20th century. North Walsham Picturedrom was open between 1912 and 1931, the Regal Cinema between 1931 and 1979, and the existing movie theatre, the Atrium, opened in 2011. For all of your home upgrades, make certain to make use of dependable professionals in North Walsham to make certain of quality.

FAQs

how to remove old exterior paint?

How To Remove Old Exterior Paint

When the paint of your house is starting to peel, there’s the need to take a swift action. While some homeowners opt to cover it with vinyl siding or replace it with fibre cement siding, there’s no reason why you would want to hide the exterior of your house if it still looks great. When you don’t want to hide the beauty of your exterior, the only other option you’ve got is stripping or removing of the old paint. So how do you remove old exterior paint without much hassle? Let’s take a look!

✓ Propane blowtorch. Due to its affordability and effectiveness, this blowtorch has been one of the most popular means of removing old exterior paint amongst homeowners for quite some time. It makes use of high heat to soften the acrylic-latex paint which makes it easy to peel off with a putty knife. However, it can also be very risky to use as it’s always a dangerous game when it comes to open flames. What’s more? Applying an open flame to lead-based paint may release toxic lead fumes, therefore you’d have to be very careful if you wish to use this method.

✓ Electric sanders. Belt sanders are a great option to removing old exterior paint as they’re able to strip off the paint quickly. However, this must be done gently and carefully as you’d risk gouging the wood if you lay into the sander too hard. The problem with this method is also lead-based paint as the sander tends to convert everything to dust and direct them straight to your face, hair and lungs.

✓ Scrapping. This involves using a sharp, rigid putty knife or blade designed for painting scraping to strip the exterior paint. This method also involves dust but you’d have a better control over it than the sander.

Do I need planning permission to paint the outside of my home?

In most areas, you will not need planning permission. However, if the property is listed or in a conservation area, you will need listed building consent or planning permission to paint the exterior. A surveyor or architect's advice will be invaluable as they can help with this process.

what kind of paint to use on exterior brick?

What Kind Of Paint To Use On Exterior Brick?

If you’re thinking about painting your exterior brick, you’d probably be wondering the kind of paint that’ll be most suitable for the project. If yes, you’re definitely not alone! Bricks are widely known for being notoriously difficult to paint due to their porousness and can also absorb paint. However, if you’re able to purchase the right type of paint and carefully prepare for your home’s brick exterior, you can make the process a whole lot more easier and cleaner while also giving your home a lot more updated look. It’s usually cheap, appealing and even protects your bricks from the elements which makes it even more durable.

The best type of paint to purchase is the elastomeric paint which provides the highest level of longevity. It’s actually more expensive than acrylic paint but it clearly outworks 100% acrylic paint by double in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency. The elastomeric paint is also super resistant to cold, heat as well as sunlight which makes it perfect for outdoor application. What’s more? It’s also dense enough to fill in cracks in the bricks but in such cases you might need to apply two coats. Overall, if you happen to stay in an inclement weather prone region, an elastomeric paint will help protect your home’s brick surface.

However, if you’re on a tight budget you can also consider getting an acrylic latex paint. This is a lot cheaper than elastomeric paint, but it’s also a great painting option for exterior bricks as it permits moisture to leave the bricks’ surface and helps to prevent mildew. Furthermore, you’ll only need to apply just a coat of acrylic paint.
