Many Brits are worried that making energy saving home improvements is too expensive and won’t save them money in the long run.
While over half of those questioned believe that going ‘green’ will save them money, 13% say it’ll be too expensive.
Research carried out by a price comparison website suggests that a third of Brits think solar panels are only for those who can afford them.
But 69% know the potential and see the savings that can be made in electricity bills.
Now more than ever in the UK, homeowners need to start making the most of energy saving measures and renewable energy products.
This is because over the last few months all the major energy suppliers have raised gas and electricity prices in Britain.
This combined fuel price increase could add £200 to a home’s average energy bill every year.
And it’s saving money that many Britons are worried about most, with 2.1 million saying this is more important to them than saving the environment.
Kevin Sears from uSwitch said: “In the age of rising energy prices, consumers now understand the need to cut back on the amount of energy they use.
“However, there is still a common fear that energy efficiency costs the earth and that the outlay will outstrip any savings. But with some measures saving more within just one year than the initial cost, being more energy efficient can benefit your bank balance as well as the environment.”
To avoid the rise in energy prices, you should look at renewable products like solar panels and heat pumps. They provide free electricity all year round, and any excess electricity can be sold to the National Grid.
You’ll also receive money for every unit of energy your system generates, though the government’s Feed-in tariff scheme.
