Energy saving guides will give installers more knowledge on efficiency

The Energy Saving Trust will help give builders help in offering energy efficient advice with a series of guides.

The guides have been produced in collaboration with Robert Price Builders’ Merchants and the Federation of Master Builders.

The booklets specifically deal with offering independent advice on how best to install energy efficient upgrades during a property renovation.

This could be with double glazing, loft lagging, wall cavity insulation or a new boiler and the booklets give guidance for each room in the house.

The booklets deal with installations during a property renovation because a report found this was the easiest time to implement energy saving measures.

When you’re refurnishing a bathroom, kitchen or bedroom you can put in new energy efficient products for a cheaper price.

With these guides, builders will be able to give the latest advice on carbon and energy bill savings that a home will achieve by installing each energy efficient product.

The UK Trade and Investment recently reported that low carbon products and services could be worth as much as £4 trillion by 2015.

So the booklets give builders the chance to tap into this lucrative market and further their skills in the carbon and energy saving world.

Duncan McCombie, the Wales director of operations for the Energy Saving Trust, said: “We have commissioned independent research which has suggested homeowners are most receptive to installing energy saving solutions when already undergoing renovation work.

“Homeowners are increasingly asking for this kind of work and we hope that by making these guides available, builders can up-skill themselves and have a better understanding of the many energy saving opportunities available when upgrading a home to better meet the needs of their clients.”

With the new guides, homeowners will be able to help the government meet its 2020 carbon target of reducing emission by 15% and 80% by 2050.
