It consists of the hamlets of Creeksea as well as Ostend west of the town, Stoneyhills to the north as well as Dammer Wick, West Wick and East Wick east of the town. Although the town has a population of little over 7,500, it is the primary negotiation in the broader Dengie peninsula area (population 20,000), meaning it has facilities that are unusual in villages, such as a movie theater, a laundrette, a post office, 22 certified drinking establishments and three drug stores.
