Newton Stewart is a former burgh town in the historic county of Wigtownshire in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland. The community is on the River Cree with a lot of the town to the west of the river, and also is often described as the "Gateway to the Galloway Hills". The main local industries are farming, forestry and tourist. The town hosts a local market, as well as a number of solutions to sustain the farming industry. There are many hill cycling trails in the area. Newton Stewart rests on the southern edge of the Galloway Forest Park, which provides numerous tasks to the town. Newton Stewart FC, nicknamed the "Creesiders" play in the South of Scotland league, their ground is called Blairmount Park.
