Commercial roofing may be needed for various reasons, specifically if the present roof needs repair or it will be attached to a new build.

There are many factors which will play a role in the design and preparing of a new commercial roof top and the cost will all depend upon the size and style you go for.

Thermoplastic roofing is especially popular. This type of roofing is made from a durable material with high temperature tolerance. The material is a favourite for commercial roofing as it's resistant against uv and chemical exposure. The roof covering can last for more than 20 years, having a good resistance for fire, punctures and high wind loads.

You might also contemplate EPDM roofing. The sturdiness and flexibility of EPDM roofing makes it a popular material in the commercial roofing world. These types of roofing material have the benefit of being easier to install, maintain and restore too, adding to their popularity.

If you want to install commercial roofing then make sure to do a comparison of quotations between vetted professionals in Inverurie. By doing this you can get the top price and offer available for you within Inverurie.

Inverurie

Inverurie is a Royal Burgh and town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is situated at the convergence of the rivers Ury and Don, approximately 16 miles (26 kilometres) north west of Aberdeen. In accordance with the 2001 Census, the town has a permanent population of about 10885. Inverurie's earliest known charter go back to 1558, with its modern development happening subsequent to the structure of the Aberdeenshire Canal. This connected Port Elphinstone with Aberdeen Harbour in 1806. The Inverurie Locomotive Works, running in between 1905 and 1969, led to a modest increase in size and prosperity, however it was not until the 'Oil Boom' of the last quarter of the 20th century that the town developed into much of what is identified as its present form. The town centre is triangular and is loomed over by the grand Town Hall, which was developed in 1862. In the middle of the 'square', as it is known regionally, is the Inverurie and District War Memorial, topped by a lone Gordon Highlander watching out over the town. The main shopping areas include the Market Place and West High Street, which branch out from the centre to the more residential part of the town. In recent times, Inverurie has actually seen a progressing number of Aberdeen commuters going to live there, making it known as 'the fastest growing town in Great Britain'. The town has a variety of transport links contributing to its attraction as a place in which to commute from, being positioned on the A96 road and served by Inverurie train station on the Aberdeen to Inverness Line. The closest airport is Aberdeen Airport at Dyce. For all of your home developments, be sure to find respected specialists in Inverurie to make certain of quality.

FAQs

How long does it take to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property?

How long it takes to fix a roofing sheet on a commercial property will depend on the size of your roof and how difficult access is. Corrugated iron roofing sheets are much easier to fit than other roofing materials such as clay tiles or EDPM rubber, so that will work in your favour.

The size of the team of the roofing company you engage will also make a difference. If they have a lot of tradespeople working on your roof with lots of experience, it will take less time, while if there are only a couple of people it will take longer.

Another thing to bear in mind when considering how long it will take to fix a roofing sheet is the weather. If it starts to rain, the contractors will probably have to stop and wait, as the roof will be too slippery to work on.

In general, it should take between 1 and 3 days to fit roofing sheets on a commercial property. If you’re not having a full roof replacement, it may only take one day, whereas a completely new metal roof could take up to 3 days.

Why do commercial buildings have flat roofs?

There are a few reasons why commercial buildings often have flat roofs. Lots of people argue that flat roofs aren’t as attractive as pitched roofs, which is why it’s uncommon to see a residential property with an entirely flat roof. Lots of commercial buildings don’t need to look attractive, so go for flat roofs because they’re cheaper.

Flat roofs tend to be less expensive than pitched roofs, especially for large, broad commercial buildings. Some commercial buildings simply couldn’t have a pitched roof because their width would mean that the roof would have to be extremely high. Flat roofs are also cost-effective for commercial buildings because it means that air conditioning and ventilation units can go on the roof, saving space in and around the building.

Commercial buildings also often have flat roofs because they don’t need the loft space that residential properties need. If there’s no need for the space, it doesn’t make sense to spend more money on a pitched roof just to keep the attic space empty. Flat roofs also give the commercial building owner the opportunity to use the space as a smoking area for employees or give access to fire escapes to upper floors.

If you’re having a commercial property build, make sure you speak to the experts about the type of roof that is suitable for you. If you’re planning on having air conditioning or ventilation systems installed within the property, you might be best off with a flat roof – but if you need some extra storage space, a pitched roof might work best for you.

What is the best commercial roofing material?
The best commercial roofing material for your building will depend on the size and type of roof you have as well as your budget. A lot of commercial buildings have flat roofs, but some have pitched roofs. These days, flat roofs are almost flat, but are usually built on a small slope so water can drain effectively. Pitched roofs are much steeper and are made using tiles or shingle. Our top choices for commercial flat roofs would be fibreglass or EDPM rubber. Both of these materials will set you back around £80-110 per square metre, making them some of the most expensive flat roof materials, but they’re strong and durable. A fibreglass roof consists of a cut glass fibre mat that is pressed on the roofing frame, then resin is poured and rolled over the roof before a topcoat is applied. An EDPM roof involves laying an EDPM rubber membrane on the roof surface then gluing it down and coating it with a contact adhesive. For pitched commercial roofs, our top material would be concrete tiles or metal. Concrete tiles will set you back anywhere between 40p and £2.90 per tile and they’re long-lasting and fire-resistant. However, they are heavy and can be susceptible to high winds. Metal roofs have been used for over 50 years and today’s modern systems are extremely strong and allow for structural or thermal movement. Aluminium roofs will cost between £40-75 per square metre, plus installation. These days, flat roofs are almost flat, but are usually built on a small slope so water can drain effectively. Clay tiles cost as little as 50p to £2 each and can last over 50 years, but they are heavy so if your commercial roof isn’t already, it will need to be reinforced.

What is commercial roofing?

Commercial roofing simply refers to any roofing work, including installation and repair, that is done to commercial buildings. This might include office roofs, shop roofs or commercial unit roofs. Every building needs a roof to keep out the rain!

Since looks aren’t usually the first priority with commercial buildings, lots of commercial properties have flat roofs. These are often made from felt, EDPM rubber or fibreglass. Felt is the cheapest commercial roofing material, while fibreglass tends to be the most expensive. In felt roofs, roofers use an adhesive to stick roofing felt onto a frame. EDPM rubber roofs have a rubber membrane that is laid down and glued onto the roof and coated with a contact adhesive, while fibreglass uses a cut glass fibre mat that is pressed on before a resin and topcoat are applied.

Not all roofing companies will offer commercial roofing services, because generally the buildings tend to be bigger. Small companies won’t have enough tradespeople to work on a roof without making it very expensive for you. Commercial buildings also tend to need more scaffolding to make it safe for the professionals to work, so some smaller roofing companies won’t offer commercial services. Make sure you check a company’s website or social media if you’re looking for commercial roofing – on the Quotatis Directory, our roofers will show whether they do commercial roofing to make your search easier.
