Roofline | Soffits / Fascias in Cardiff
Job was done quickly & efficiently.
Fascias and soffits are an essential component of many guttering systems. Not only do they provide support for the guttering itself, they improve the design of your building by producing a clean and tidy finish to the roofline. Fascias or fascia boards are horizontal planks that sit on the edge of the rafters of your roof, closing the end of the roof and offering the support that the guttering is fixed to. Soffits run underneath the fascia boards, closing the gap and protecting the underside of the rafter ends. Soffits are normally ventilated to allow the roof timbers to breathe and also to avoid any moisture buildup. Box ends are used where the horizontal fascia meets the diagonal barge board that runs up the edge of the roof profile, offering a neat finish to an otherwise ugly join.
Fascias and soffits are normally created from either wood or UPVC. Timber fascias and soffits are common on older properties and remain popular. However, timber fascias and soffits can rot over time and expose the rest of the guttering to problems or leaks. Recently, UPVC fascias and soffits have been increasingly popular as they offer a durable choice that will not rot. UPVC fascias and soffits can be purchased in an array of colours to suit any property, although white is very popular as it provides a traditional appearance. Fascias are also available in ogee moulded designs, where feature grooves are integrated. These can have an impressive effect.
How much replacing your soffits and fascias costs depends on several things, including the size of your property, the materials you use and where you live. However, the cost of a soffits and fascias project tends to range between £1,300 and £2,000 for most people.

Source: Numbers calculated based on the search volumes in major search enginesChepstow is a town in Monmouthshire, Wales. It adjoins the border with Gloucestershire in England. It's situated on the River Wye, about 2 miles (3.2 km) above its confluence with the River Severn, and adjoining the western end of the Severn Bridge. It is 16 miles (26 km) east of Newport, 18 miles (29 km) north-west of Bristol and 110 miles (180 km) west of London. Based on the 2001 Census, the town features a permanent population of about 10821. Its accessibility to the cities of Bristol, Newport and Cardiff means it includes a substantial quantity of commuters. Chepstow Castle, situated on a clifftop above the Wye and its bridge, is frequently cited as the oldest surviving stone castle in Britain. The castle was established by William Fitzosbern promptly after the Norman conquest, and was extended in later centuries ahead of becoming ruined after the Civil War. A Benedictine priory was also established inside the walled town, which was the centre of the Marcher Lordship of Striguil. The port of Chepstow became noted in the Middle Ages for its imports of wine, and also became a significant centre for the export of timber and bark, from nearby woodland in the Wye valley and Forest of Dean. In the late eighteenth century the town was a focus of early tourism as a part of the "Wye Tour", and the tourist business remains significant. Other significant industries included shipbuilding - one of the very first World War National Shipyards was established in the town - and heavy engineering, such as the prefabrication of bridges and, now, wind turbine towers. Chepstow is also well known for its racecourse, which has hosted the Welsh National each year since 1949. You can paint your soffits and fascias if they’re made of wood. In fact, it’s a good idea to do this every few years, as it can help to preserve them and keep them looking smart.
You can choose what you paint your soffits and fascias with by deciding what kind of look you want to achieve. You can stain them if you want to maintain a natural wood look, or use an exterior gloss or satin paint if you want to change their colour.
Soffits and fascias sit along the sides of your property, over the join between your walls and your roof. The fascia attaches to the end of your roof rafters, hiding and protecting them. The soffit fixes on the bottom of the fascia, bridging the gap between your fascia and wall. Your guttering attaches to the fascia, which also joins to the bargeboard on your gable end, if you have one.
The soffit and fascia is the outdoor underside region of your roof which would need to be repaired or replaced when it’s in a critical condition. Your soffit and fascia may actually require more frequent replacement or repair depending on the material that the soffit or fascia uses. If you notice your soffit and fascia needs to be replaced, then you’d probably also like to know how much it going to cost. Well, you’ve come to the right place! The price to replace a soffit and fascia can vary significantly which can be a bit annoying when you’re trying to calculate the overall cost you’ll be expected to pay.
The price of a soffit and fascia is based on the following variables:
✓ The materials you wish to use for the new fascia, soffit and guttering
✓ The type of the property. For instance, semi detached houses may come at a lower price due to the less roof space they require when compared to their counterparts, which can reduce the cost of replacement.
✓ If you’re going to also replace the gutter at the same time will also increase the cost of replacement.
✓ The current overall condition of the roof. For example, if you also have broken or slipping roof tiles, the soffits and fascias can be more difficult to replace, hence, increasing the cost of the project.
Generally, the average cost of fitting soffits and fascias as replacement options for your homes will range between £1200 - £3,000. What’s more? Soffits and fascias normally have a per metre cost. The average price of soffits and fascias per metre can range between £100 to £130 when you opt for a white uPVC option.
You should replace your soffits and fascias if you are having problems. Soffits and fascias can degrade and rot away over time, and this can cause leaks, faulty guttering, or even allow pests entry to the roof space. If any of these problems occur, you should speak to an experienced roofline company to discuss replacing your soffits and fascias.
