Yarm is a village in North Yorkshire, England. The community is on the south bank of the River Tees and also is traditionally part of the North Riding of Yorkshire. The bridge at Yarm noted the furthest reach of tidal flow up the River Tees up until the opening, in 1995, of the Tees Barrage, which now controls river circulation above Stockton. As the last bridge on the river before the sea, it was superseded by a new toll bridge opened up in Stockton in 1771. The oldest part of the community, around the High Street, is situated in a loophole of the river, and also the more recent parts of the town include the point where the River Leven fulfills the River Tees. The town is governed as part of the District of Stockton-on-Tees.
