However, just before we delve straight in to the price, let’s look at a thing or two about the big company.

The company, “British Gas are not a boiler manufacturer as you probably would have first imagined. They’re actually a company that specializes in the installation of boilers. As a result, they’re able to install just about any type of boiler you can imagine from any manufacturer. Be it a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Style or a Baxi 600, they’re able to provide you with the cost of having these boilers installed in your home or property.

Combi boilers are perfect boilers for space-saving and this makes them very popular on the market. They’re also very efficient when it comes to heating water instantly and warm your in few minutes. The price of a new British Gas combi boiler varies on a number of factors. Generally, the installation prices of combi boilers start from £1,800. Therefore, if British Gas are to be competitive with their pricing it should also be around this price.

However, if you have a large house with several rooms with a higher demand for hot water, British Gas will most likely recommend boilers such as Worcester Bosch 440CDi and the likes. Judging from other firms in the market, the price to have these types installed should be in excess of £3,000.

Re-pressurising your boiler means that you allow more water to enter system via the filling loop. It can be easy to re-pressurise your boiler yourself. Always check your manual, but there are some simple steps you can take to restore pressure to your boiler:

• Switch off your boiler and let it cool completely

• Make sure both ends of your filling loop are attached

• Open both valves to allow cold water into the system – you’ll hear it start to move

• Look out for your pressure gauge to show 1.5 bar

• Close both valves

• Switch your boiler back on

• Undo both ends of your filling loop and remove it. Remember some water might come out, so be ready to catch some spillage!

The size of boiler you need will depend on the size of your home, how many radiators and bathrooms you have and how many people live there. The boiler size refers to its output, which is measured in kilowatts (kW), rather than the actual dimensions. Speak to your boiler engineer about which boiler is suitable for you, as if you have more than one bathroom or a lot of people in your home a combi boiler might not suit you. Other boiler types such as system boilers or conventional boilers may be better suited to larger homes because they have bigger outputs.

The A-G scale refers to the energy efficiency of your boiler. G-rated boilers are the least efficient, and give you less heat and hot water for your money. Installing an A-rated boiler will reduce your energy bills and carbon emissions. Don't compromise on cheaper, lower rated boilers, you will save yourself more money longer term with an A-rated model.
