Ashbourne
Ashbourne is a market town in the Derbyshire Dales in England. Because of its proximity to the southern edge of the Peak District and being the nearest town to the well known area of Dovedale, the town is generally known as both the 'Gateway to Dovedale' and the 'Gateway to the Peak District'. This has meant that tourism has always been critical to the town's economy. As per the 2011 Census, the town has a resident population of about 8377 people. It includes lots of historical buildings and many independent shops and is well-known for its historic annual Shrovetide football match. The cobbled market place hosts a traditional outdoor market each Thursday and Saturday throughout the year, complementing the large array of individual shops inside the town. Even though its market heritage is significant, Ashbourne's market was threatened with closure by Derbyshire County Council in November 2012. Residents of Ashbourne have stood against any such moves by the council and began an online petition. Ashbourne became the 97th Fairtrade Town in March 2005 after many local businesses, cafes, shops and community organisations started supporting Fairtrade. Ashbourne offers a considerable variety of public houses for a very small town centre. Currently, you will find 10 pubs trading, as well as two social clubs. The popular and rare 'gallows' sign across St John's Street remains a central meeting point within the town. Local historians have noted that nearly 1 in 4 buildings inside the town have at one time or another been an alehouse, pub or inn or were redeveloped on the site of such an establishment. For all your property upgrades, make certain that you use reliable professionals in Ashbourne to ensure you get the best quality service.
