Johnstone is a town in the council area and county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It lies 3 miles west of Paisley, 12 miles west of the centre of the city of Glasgow and 12 miles north east of Kilwinning. Such a development in population meant the increase in slum conditions up until the advancement of an area of the town to provide a significant amount of purpose-built housing estates, taking place in the 1930s. Much of Johnstone's history preceding industrialisation has actually disappeared, with Johnstone Castle ending up being derelict after the last Laird passed away in 1931. The town's population of 15687 is well-connected to the rest of Scotland as a result of its distance to dependable transportation links. A dual carriageway links Johnstone to the M8 motorway for transportation connections to central Scotland, and the town provides 2 railway stations with routine trains to Glasgow Central, Paisley and the Ayrshie Coast.
