Johnstone

Johnstone is a town in the council area and county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. It is set 3 miles west of Paisley, 12 miles west of the centre of the city of Glasgow and 12 miles north east of Kilwinning. Forming a section of the biggest conurbation in Scotland, Johnstone sits on the western boundary of the Greater Glasgow Urban Area. Johnstone was a planned neighborhood, which built around the house of Easter Cochrane, now known as Johnstone Castle. Building began in 1782 when the Laird George Houston accredited styles for a number of residential seats forming the town centre. The building of 2 identical civic squares, Houstoun Square and Ludovic Square, and the town acquired its parish church by 1794. Coal mining started to bring wealth to Johnstone in the 19th century, with the population increasing to 5600 in 1831. Such a growth in population meant the boost in slum conditions until the development of an area of the town to incorporate a sizeable amount of purpose-built residential estates, happening in the 1930s. Much of Johnstone's history before industrialisation has actually disappeared, with Johnstone Castle ending up being derelict after the last Laird passed away in 1931. The town's population of 15687 is well-connected to the rest of Scotland thanks to its proximity to effective transportation links. A dual carriageway joins Johnstone to the M8 motorway for transport links to central Scotland, and the town provides two train stations with routine trains to Glasgow Central, Paisley and the Ayrshie Coast. Those hoping to explore more afar are 3.5 miles away from Glasgow International Airport and 40 minutes away by train from Prestwick International Airport. For all of your home upgrades, make certain to make use of respected specialists in Johnstone to make certain of quality.

how to fix a boiler?

How To Fix A Boiler

A boiler is subjected to regular usage, working for a several hours a day and providing hot water for shower on a daily basis and even more so during winter. With it’s power and efficiency, we tend to postpone or even totally overlook its maintenance. However, no matter how good your boiler is, it consists of many moving components and it’ll certainly develop some faults some day. When the inevitable occurs, you might want to save some money and get it fixed all by yourself.

When it comes to fixing boilers, seeking help from a licensed heating engineer is usually the best solution, however at times you might be just lucky to be faced with minor issues which you should be able to handle yourself. In this article, we’ll look at some of the most common causes of a broken boiler and how you can get your heating system up and running again. Let’s have a look!

✓ Low system pressure. In the event whereby your boiler display a low system pressure, it could mean that the system is about to breakdown. You’ll have to carry out regular inspections on the pressure gauge to see if there’s any noticeable changes and call in a heating engineer immediately to prevent a system breakdown from happening.

✓ Poor heat production. Although this is unlikely to lead to any great issues, but it’ll reduce the effective functioning of your heating system. To prevent a debris build, it’s important to have your boiler cleaned regularly.

✓ Strange noises. Boilers often make noises, so there’s nothing to worry about unless it’s a banging or whistling noise that’s very odd , then there may be a serious issue. You’ll have to check the air intake, pressure, exhaust and piping to ensure they’re working just fine, if not there may be a need for replacement.

how much is a boiler service?

How Much Is A Boiler Service?

A broken boiler can be a huge pain and even more so if it occurs during the winter months. A cold house and cold shower is not a situation to be handled with levity especially when there are older people or more vulnerable members in the house. To ensure your boiler keeps functioning the way it should for a lengthy period of time, it’s crucial to ensure that you have your boiler serviced on a yearly basis. But while the summer or warmer months happen to be the most cost effective time to have the boiler servicing done, doing it during the depths of winter can go a long way to ensure that you and your loved ones get through the cold without any unwanted occurrence or boiler issues.

Generally, to have your boiler serviced will cost anything within the range of £80 to about £120, but at times, this can even be more depending on a plethora of factors. The servicing cost will be based on the particular company you choose, the type of boiler you possess, as well as your location in the UK. For instance, if you happen to live in London where demands are higher than the other regions, then you’ll most likely have to pay more money to have your boiler serviced than other homeowners facing similar issues but staying in the other lower demand regions.

Asides from hiring a professional to service your boiler on an annual basis, you should also try to help maintain its efficiency and health in between those services. This will not be a substitute to the regular servicing or even make the servicing a lot simpler, but will surely help keep it at a maximum efficiency while also keeping the cost of your heating bills down.

How to repair a boiler leak?

If your boiler is leaking, there are some checks that you can do yourself. However, you should never attempt to repair your boiler yourself – only a Gas Safe-registered engineer should conduct repairs.

There are 3 main reasons why your boiler might be leaking: there’s a pressure valve fault, a temperature valve leak or corrosion in the system. An engineer will be able to spot the problem quickly, but in the meantime there are a few things you can do:

Check the pipe fittings

If your boiler is leaking water around the pipe fittings, it could be an installation fault and you should get in touch with the engineer that fitted it. You can check the pipe fittings by drying the area then waiting to see if the water appears again. If it does, you may be able to do a ¼ turn of the pipe to stop it. However, you should still call the engineer that installed it to ask them to check the PTFE tape on the inside.

Inspect the seals

Over time, the rubber seals on a boiler can start to perish, so if you have an old boiler this could be the source of your leak. If you have a new boiler, it could be caused by your boiler running over pressure.

Heat exchanger corrosion

Unfortunately, if a boiler engineer discovers that the boiler is leaking water from the heat exchanger, this is the end of the road for your system. The heat exchanger is the most expensive part of your boiler, so it makes more financial sense to replace your boiler with a newer, more efficient model rather than try to replace it.

how to fix a broken boiler?

How To Fix A Broken Boiler

To fix any problem when it comes to home appliances, the first step is always to identify the problem while also carrying out thorough checks - a broken boiler is not an exception. Putting enough time and effort in diagnosing a problem can go a lot way to save you both time and money. So here are some of the steps you can take to fix your broken boiler before you put a call out to a licensed engineer.

✓ Check to confirm if your pilot light is on. Whenever you’re facing some issues with your boiler, this should always be the first thing you do. The pilot light being on speak volumes, if the light is off then there’s absolutely no way the flame can start the appliance’s gas supply. You should try to put it back on, if off. To do this, you simply have to follow the detailed instructions on your boiler’s manual strictly. If after following these actions to the letter and the issue remains the same, then you’d probably need the services of an a qualified engineer. Never try to fix the issue on your own.

✓ Check the pressure. The solution to the headaches might sometimes be as simple as examining your appliance’s pressure gauge. Here, the good numbers are around 1.0 or1.5, if it happens to fall below this, then you should open the boiler’s instruction manual. You can also inspect your radiator valves for any leaks. You’d have to call in a specialist to solve the issue.

✓ Check the thermostat. Here, it’s important to note that a faulty thermostat doesn’t necessarily imply a broken boiler. It may just signify that you need to replace your thermostat. Simply check to ensure that your thermostat is turned on and temperature is at the appropriate degree.
