Elland is a market town in Calderdale, in the English county of West Yorkshire. It lies south of Halifax, near the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation. Reported as 'Elant' in the Domesday Book of 1086, the name of the town derives from the Old English term meaning 'land by the water, river or land partially or fully encompassed by water'. At the time of the 2011 Census, Elland had a permanent population of 11676. Elland has a long and well-known history as a production and trading town. The town acquired a charter to host a market on Tuesdays in the 14th century, to be held at the Manor of Elland and at two fairs over the course of the year. The town shortly transformed into a prime location for wool production, and its downturn in the 20th century had a far-reaching impact on the population, with a large number of mills being converted to homes, if they were not knocked down. Quarried near the town after the establishment of the canal, tough flagstones were transported cheaply across the country. Elland was the home to the principal factory of the manufacturer of Gannex products and it is presently the the home of the Dobsons sweet factory, which makes a series of traditional kinds of boiled candies. Suma Wholefoods has been based in the town since 2001, which is the largest worker's co-operative. A range of landmarks are also discovered in the region, featuring St. Mary the Virgin parish church, the Old Town Hall and Southgate Methodist Church. For all your house upgrades, make sure to make use of credible contractors in Elland to make certain of quality.

Planning permission is not normally needed for a loft conversion as they are covered by permitted development rights. A conversion company will tell you if you do and help you with this. For more information, see our article about planning permission.
There’s a huge range of different types of loft conversions. The most common are dormer and skylight or Velux conversions. There are also hip to gable and mansard conversions. The type of loft conversion that’s most suitable for your property will depend on the style of roof and the size of your loft.
This is a type of loft conversion that extends your roof on the sloping side. It is a great option to go for especially where a hipped roof effectively makes the usable floor area a lot smaller which can be a tricky affair when it comes to putting in a new staircase. Here, the roof is extended from the current ridge in such a way that it effectively fills the gap between them. As a result, this turns the hip (in a hipped roof) into a gable to create space in your roof for a loft conversion - hence the name “hip to gable.
The new gable can be done in whatever way that suits both your taste as well as your property. You can make the new gable construction in woods and then tiled to match your existing roof while you can also go for other options such as brick block pebbledash or rendering. You are also free to fit in a new window into the loft conversion end so as to allow for natural light into the loft space.
A hip to gable loft conversion is mostly found on both semi detached and end terrace buildings, particularly those constructed in the 1930s. Overall, this type of loft conversion is particularly ideal for homes that features a hipped roof and with a sloping roof at the side of the property. Some detached properties can also possess a hipped roof on the side - and as such, a double hip to gable loft conversion can also be deal as it’ll create more loft space for usage. If your home fits into the bill, then you should be aware that once the project is completed, you’ll have plenty of usable space available to both you and your loved ones.
A dormer loft conversion is a type of loft conversion that’s built making use of a roof’s existing slope. In other words, it’s an existing roof’s extension which is constructed in such a way that allows for an additional floor as well as head room especially suitable for lofts lacking good amount of usable space. The dormer loft conversion is simply an addition to the existing roof looking much like a box-like build constructed onto a pitched roof as it creates walls that are vertical to the slope while also being 90 degrees to the floor.
This type of loft conversion is the most common amongst homeowners in the UK mainly because it represents a cost effective means through which you can add an additional usable space to your home or property. The structure extends for the slope of the existing roof and can easily be altered to suit various tastes or styles. Furthermore, if you’re looking for a type of loft conversion that aids to foster reduced disruption to work, then dormer loft conversion is also your best bet. This is due to the fact that the structure is built from a scaffolding made outside a home.
There are different types of dormer loft conversion and the one which will best suit your property will depend on the property type, be it detached, semi detached or terraced as well as the existing roof shape and size. The dormer loft conversion is a popular choice for a lot of homeowners for a variety of reasons. Let’s have a look!
✓ It’s very cost effective
✓ The dormer loft conversion does not require planning permission so far it complies with certain conditions and limitations
