Chepstow

Chepstow is a town in Monmouthshire, Wales. It adjoins the border with Gloucestershire in England. It is situated around the River Wye, about 2 miles (3.2 km) above its confluence with the River Severn, and adjoining the western end of the Severn Bridge. It's 16 miles (26 km) east of Newport, 18 miles (29 km) north-west of Bristol and 110 miles (180 km) west of London. In accordance with the 2001 Census, the town includes a permanent population of about 10821. Its accessibility to the cities of Bristol, Newport and Cardiff means it includes a large quantity of commuters. Chepstow Castle, situated on a clifftop above the Wye and its bridge, is often cited as the oldest surviving stone castle in Britain. The castle was established by William Fitzosbern promptly following the Norman conquest, and was extended in later centuries before becoming ruined after the Civil War. A Benedictine priory was also established inside the walled town, which was the centre of the Marcher Lordship of Striguil. The port of Chepstow became noted in the Middle Ages for its imports of wine, and also became a major centre for the export of timber and bark, from nearby woodland in the Wye valley and Forest of Dean. In the late 18th century the town was a focus of early tourism as a part of the "Wye Tour", and the tourist sector remains significant. Other significant industries included shipbuilding - among the first World War National Shipyards was established in the town - and heavy engineering, which includes the prefabrication of bridges and, now, wind turbine towers. Chepstow is also well-known for its racecourse, which has hosted the Welsh National every year since 1949. FAQs

Will I have to get different contractors for the plumbing, heating and electrics?

In some circumstances, you may have to hire different companies for different parts of your garage conversion. But most of the time, garage conversion companies have their own tradespeople or contractors that are qualified to do all the work involved. When you're at the quotation stage, any contractor will advise you of what they are able and not able to cover.

What should I do if I have a leaking pipe or tap?

If a tap is leaking, it may simply be a loose valve or washer. However, if these appear to be sufficiently tight, you should contact a plumber, who will be able to investigate and rectify the leak. Do not attempt to fix leaking or damaged pipes, always call a plumber in straight away.

What kind of services will I need a plumber for?

While some small plumbing jobs can be completed yourself, it’s recommended that you use a certified plumber for bigger jobs. Installing toilets or sinks, repairing leaks, and replacing pipes are all jobs that qualified plumbers will be able to undertake.

Can a plumber fix my gas boiler?

This will depend on the issue. However, many plumbers are also Gas Safe Registered, meaning they can undertake work on all aspects of boilers and central heating systems. It's best to look out for plumbers that display the badge of your boiler on their literature.
