Cowes

Cowes is an English seaport town and civil parish on the Isle of Wight. Cowes is situated on the west bank of the estuary of the River Medina, facing the smaller town of East Cowes on the east bank. The 2 towns are connected by the Cowes Floating Bridge, a chain ferry. It is one of a couple of remaining chain ferryboats not replaced by a physical bridge. Leland's 19th century verses described the towns poetically as 'The 2 great Cowes that in loud thunder roar, This on the eastern, that the western shore'. Cowes has been seen as a home for global yacht racing since the founding of the Royal Yacht Squadron in 1815. The town gives its name to the world's oldest routine regatta, Cowes Week, which occurs each year in the very first week of August. Later on in the summertime, powerboat races are held. The population was 9663 in the 2001 census, a figure that doubles through the regatta in early August. More recently, the population at the 2011 Census was 10405. Much of the town's architecture is still profoundly influenced by the design of ornate building which Prince Albert popularised. Industry in both Cowes and East Cowes has always centred on the construction and style of marine craft and materials associated with boat-making, including the early flying boats, and sail-making. Cowes is an entry town for the Isle of Wight. Visitors to Southampton are served by a high speed catamaran passenger ferryboat from Cowes recognized as the Red Jet. It is the place where the first hovercraft was tested. For all of your home renovations, make certain to identify trusted specialists in Cowes to make sure of quality.

FAQs

What kind of services will I need a plumber for?

While some small plumbing jobs can be completed yourself, it’s recommended that you use a certified plumber for bigger jobs. Installing toilets or sinks, repairing leaks, and replacing pipes are all jobs that qualified plumbers will be able to undertake.

What should I do if I have a leaking pipe or tap?

If a tap is leaking, it may simply be a loose valve or washer. However, if these appear to be sufficiently tight, you should contact a plumber, who will be able to investigate and rectify the leak. Do not attempt to fix leaking or damaged pipes, always call a plumber in straight away.

Can a plumber fix my gas boiler?

This will depend on the issue. However, many plumbers are also Gas Safe Registered, meaning they can undertake work on all aspects of boilers and central heating systems. It's best to look out for plumbers that display the badge of your boiler on their literature.

Will I have to get different contractors for the plumbing, heating and electrics?

In some circumstances, you may have to hire different companies for different parts of your garage conversion. But most of the time, garage conversion companies have their own tradespeople or contractors that are qualified to do all the work involved. When you're at the quotation stage, any contractor will advise you of what they are able and not able to cover.
