Gourock is a town that is within the Inverclyde council area and previously a burgh of the county of Renfrewshire in the west of Scotland. The town's name comes from the Gaelic term for 'rounded hill', which refers to the hill above the town. Historically a small fishing village, Gourock eventually progressed into a community centred on herring curing, copper mining, rope making, quarrying, and yacht building and servicing.
