Waltham Abbey is a market community in Epping Forest District in the southwest of the county of Essex. The town's name stems from the Abbey Church of Waltham Holy Cross, a set up ancient monument that signified in the community's earlier background. The M25 freeway goes with the south of the community via the center of the church and is accessed at Junction 26. In the very early 20th century, the community was full of glass homes and market yards. A crucial sector in the Lea Valley was gravel removal, which has actually left a legacy of pits that continue to be made use of for entertainment functions and also as a significant environment for wildlife. Waltham Abbey's population began to boost in the 1960s as well as throughout the 1970s. This was, partly, because of a prevalent scheme of clearances as well as redevelopment in the town centre, incorporated with the building of housing estates on the borders. As a result of the community's close proximity to the M25, it has actually ended up being a dorm town, although it proceeds to be the residence of some light market.
