Alexandria

Alexandria is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The town is located on the River Leven, four miles (six kilometres) north-west of Dumbarton. In 2001, the population of the town was 13,444. It's the biggest town inside the Vale of Leven. Alexandria developed on account of the textile business. In 1715, the first bleachfields in the area were started at Dalquhurn, attracting seasonal labour from Argyll. As trade between Scotland and the USA grew, cotton was increasingly imported and processed in and around Glasgow. Soon, textile work within the Vale grew from just bleaching fabric to dying and printing it also. The town's traditional industries, most importantly cotton manufacturing, bleaching and printing, have been phased out. The town was redeveloped in the 1970s with a new town centre layout and traffic system. Local landmarks include Christie Park as well as the fountain in the town centre. Alexandria is located on the former A82 main road between Glasgow and Loch Lomond. You'll find frequent bus services on the route and the town has a railway station on the rail line in between Balloch and Glasgow Queen Street. The town is well-known as the only UK town with a railway station as well as a pub in the middle of a roundabout. The author A. J. Cronin's uncle owned a pub in Bridge Street. Alexandria Library is situated on Gilmour Street. The town hosts the Vale of Leven football club, who play at Millburn Park. The club were a dominant force in early Scottish football history, winning the Scottish Cup in 1877, 1878 and 1879, and were founder members of the Scottish Football League. For all of your home renovations, ensure that that you use trustworthy professionals in Alexandria to ensure you get the best quality service.

FAQs

Do you need an aerial for Freeview?

Freeview is only available through a TV aerial. You can’t access Freeview using the internet, so you’ll need to invest in a TV aerial if you haven’t got one already.

What is satellite TV?

Satellite TV is a service that provides its customers with a wide range of TV channels by transmitting signals from a communications satellite. Users around the world can pick it up using a satellite dish mounted on their property and connected to their TV. Satellite TV is particularly useful for viewers who live out of aerial and cable TV range in remote areas.

What should I do if I’m experiencing poor TV signal quality?

If your TV picture is pixelated, poor quality, or cutting out, there may be a fault with your aerial or the cables connecting it to your TV. Also your aerial may not be located in the correct place. An experienced aerial company can carry out a survey to discover the fault.

How to connect a TV to an aerial?

Your TV and aerial need to be connected by coaxial cable for your TV to work. Most properties have wall mounted connection boxes – similar to electrical plugs – that you can simply plug your TV into. If you don’t have a cable, it’s easy to pick up one from most DIY shops.

If you’re installing a new outside aerial, you may be able to reuse the old cable. If you can’t, you’ll need to route a new one down from your aerial to any sockets you need. Coaxial cable can be routed down the exterior of your property, through loft spaces, under floors and along skirting boards.
