Bourne

Bourne is a market town and civil parish within the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. Bourne is located on the eastern slopes of the Kesteven Uplands and the western edge of the Lincolnshire Fens. The town is positioned on a Roman road now called King Street and was built around a natural spring, therefore the name 'Bourne', which comes from Anglo-Saxon meaning 'water' or 'stream'. It is positioned on the intersection of the A15 and the A151 roads. The civil parish incorporates the principal township as well as the hamlets of Cawthorpe, Dyke and Twenty. In former years, Austerby was seen as a separate settlement with its own shops and street plan, but is now an area considered to be inside Bourne called The Austerby. The town's economy was driven by rural industries till the introduction of the railway created a market for bottled mineral water. Though it is nonetheless focused on agriculture and food preparation for supermarkets you can also find important light engineering and tourism activities. The district includes a quickly developing housing market with considerable new building being undertaken in Bourne in the 2000s. The population taken at the 2001 census was approximately 13,961, rising to about 14,500 residents by the 2011 census. Bourne Town Football Club plays in the United Counties Football League and the junior club runs teams for young people at all ages in local league competitions. Bourne Cricket Club is one of the strongest in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League, having won the league three times since it started in 2000. The club normally supplies players for the Lincolnshire Minor Counties team. These teams play their home games at the Abbey Lawn, a recreation ground which is privately owned by the Bourne United Charities. FAQs

What is satellite TV?

Satellite TV is a service that provides its customers with a wide range of TV channels by transmitting signals from a communications satellite. Users around the world can pick it up using a satellite dish mounted on their property and connected to their TV. Satellite TV is particularly useful for viewers who live out of aerial and cable TV range in remote areas.

How to connect a TV to an aerial?

Your TV and aerial need to be connected by coaxial cable for your TV to work. Most properties have wall mounted connection boxes – similar to electrical plugs – that you can simply plug your TV into. If you don’t have a cable, it’s easy to pick up one from most DIY shops.

If you’re installing a new outside aerial, you may be able to reuse the old cable. If you can’t, you’ll need to route a new one down from your aerial to any sockets you need. Coaxial cable can be routed down the exterior of your property, through loft spaces, under floors and along skirting boards.

Do you need an aerial for Freeview?

Freeview is only available through a TV aerial. You can’t access Freeview using the internet, so you’ll need to invest in a TV aerial if you haven’t got one already.

Can I receive a satellite signal using an aerial?

No, you will need a satellite dish to receive a satellite signal for services like Sky or Freesat, as these are specific channels and programmes only broadcast via this medium. These can be installed in a similar way to a standard TV aerial by a recognised engineer.
