Ivybridge

Ivybridge is a town and civil parish in the South Hams, in Devon, England. It sits about 9 miles (14.5 kilometres) east of Plymouth. It is at the southern extremity of Dartmoor, a National Park of England and Wales and is located along the A38 'Devon Expressway' road. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of around 11851 individuals. Mentioned in records as early as the 13th century, Ivybridge's early history is marked by its status as an important crossing-point over the River Erme on the Exeter-to-Plymouth route. In the 16th century, mills were constructed making use of the River Erme's power. The parish of Saint John was formed in 1836, with Ivybridge coming to be a civil parish in 1894. It emerged as a town in 1977. The early urbanisation and development of Ivybridge mainly coincided with the Industrial Revolution. When the South Devon Railway Company constructed its train route through Ivybridge in the 19th century, a paper mill was built in addition to it, which led to an increase in housing close by. The paper mill closed in the beginning of the 21st century, after being in operation for over 150 years in the town, and the buildings are being transformed to homes and shops. The shopping area is mostly along Fore Street, with some small shops and restaurants situated in the Glanvilles Mill shopping centre which is accessible from Fore Street. The shopping centre includes over 35 shops, which includes both local and national chain stores, as well as restaurants and cafés. Though occasionally referred to as a dormitory town, many individuals work in the town itself, and agriculture continues to play an economic role for Ivybridge's hinterland. The region neighbouring Ivybridge is almost completely farmland. For all your home makeovers, be sure to identify credible specialists in Ivybridge to make certain of quality.

FAQs

Can aerials be installed in places other than my roof?

Yes, an aerial could be installed in your garden or on outbuildings. This will depend on the strength of the signal in your area. A professional aerial installation company will be able to advise you on the possible locations for an aerial on your property.

Do you need an aerial for Freeview?

Freeview is only available through a TV aerial. You can’t access Freeview using the internet, so you’ll need to invest in a TV aerial if you haven’t got one already.

What is satellite TV?

Satellite TV is a service that provides its customers with a wide range of TV channels by transmitting signals from a communications satellite. Users around the world can pick it up using a satellite dish mounted on their property and connected to their TV. Satellite TV is particularly useful for viewers who live out of aerial and cable TV range in remote areas.

How to connect a TV to an aerial?

Your TV and aerial need to be connected by coaxial cable for your TV to work. Most properties have wall mounted connection boxes – similar to electrical plugs – that you can simply plug your TV into. If you don’t have a cable, it’s easy to pick up one from most DIY shops.

If you’re installing a new outside aerial, you may be able to reuse the old cable. If you can’t, you’ll need to route a new one down from your aerial to any sockets you need. Coaxial cable can be routed down the exterior of your property, through loft spaces, under floors and along skirting boards.
