Bewdley

Bewdley is a small waterfront community and also civil church in the Wyre Forest District of Worcestershire on the Shropshire border in England, along the Severn Valley 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Kidderminster and 22 miles (35 kilometres) southwest of Birmingham. [1] It rests on the River Severn, at the portal of the Wyre Forest national nature reserve, and at the time of the 2011 census had a population of 9,470. Bewdley is a popular traveler destination and also is known for the Bewdley Bridge created by Thomas Telford. The almost all of Bewdley community is positioned on the western bank of the River Severn, consisting of the main street-- Load Street-- whose name originates from lode, an old word for ferryboat. Load Street is notable for its width: this is because it once likewise acted as the community's market location. The majority of Bewdley's shops as well as amenities are situated along Load Street, at the top of which lies St Anne's Church, built between 1745 and 1748 by Doctor Thomas Woodward of Chipping Campden. Past the church, High Street leads off to the south in the direction of Stourport along the B4194, a roadway understood locally as "the switchback" due to its several wavinesses. Unlike in many English communities, High Street is so called not as a result of its significance, yet as a result of its geographical position 'high' over the river. Beyond of the church, Welch Gate (so called since it when included a tollgate when driving in the direction of Wales) climbs up considerably approximately the west, while Dowles Road, a continuation of the B4194 leads northwest to Dowles and also in the direction of the Wyre Forest. To the northeast of the community is the woody hill of Wassel Wood in Trimpley, the southerly terminus of Shatterford Hill. In the location in between Stourport as well as Bewdley there are several large lodge, among which Witley Court, Astley Hall as well as Pool Residence are especially significant.
