Droitwich

Droitwich Spa is a town in the north of the county of Worcestershire. Positioned on the River Salwarpe containing substantial deposits of salt, the extraction of salt has actually been a venture taking place from the ancient period. The natural Droitwich salt water includes two and a half pounds of salt per gallon, which is 10 times greater than sea water. In the 19th century, John Corbett, the son of a Black Country barge owner, developed the town's spa services after the decrease of the salt industry. The Droitwich Spa Lido was a particularly popular leisure destination, which was set up in the 1930s as a public open air salt water swimming pool. Although the Lido was closed in the late 1990s, improvements in 2006 enabling the resuming of the centre in the summer of 2007 has actually enabled the Lido to continue as a pleasurable and attractive amusement. Droitwich is within Wychavon, a local government district that was the only region in the Midlands to appear in the Halifax 'Quality of Life Survey' in 2011, which was ranked as Sixth overall. A huge selection of leisure activities are readily available for the growing 22585 residents recorded in the 2011 census. This consists of the opportunities supplied by the Droitwich Canal Network for walkers and cyclists, the multitude of independent and high street merchants, as well as various markets frequently taking place in the town. Celebrations take place throughout the year, and performances can be seen throughout the year at the Norbury Theatre.
