Lairg
Lairg is a town as well as church in Sutherland, Scotland. It has a population of 891 and goes to the south-eastern end of Loch Shin. Lairg is unusual in the north Highlands, otherwise special, in being a large settlement that is out the coast. Among the factors that Lairg is a little bigger than other non-coastal Highland towns is its central area within the area of Sutherland. Having 4 roads which fulfill in the village, it used to be known as "The Crossroads of the North". In the 19th century, it was provided with a train station, on what is now the Far North Line. This growth indicates that the north-west of Sutherland is currently less complicated to reach. (The Far North Line links Inverness in the south with Thurso and Wick in the north.).
