Sewer Clearing in Ely

Before you start digging, you should know sewer lines are required to be buried within certain specifications and it’s your responsibility to find out what these specifications are. If you’re thinking about the appropriate depth of sewer line, then you’ve come to the right place! In this post we’re going to consider how deep a main sewer line should be buried underground.

First and foremost, you should understand that sewer lines are simply the intestinal systems of a house or property. Their primary function is to totally remove waste water and other waste matter from your drains, toilet, shower, dishwasher as well as the exterior faucets. With this in mind, we can then move to our main concern which is the sewer line depth. In a world that’s perfect, you’d be allowed to to just dig your home’s sewer line deep enough to cover it with a thin layer of sod. However, if you happen to reside in an environment with deep running cold, this inclement weather may just freeze up your waste right in the pipe due to the fact that it’s placed too close to the surface where there’s not enough warmth. This could also extend to other harsh weather conditions such as heavy wind and hurricanes which are able to tear out ground deep down and even more so, if it were to pull up trees that are close by with deep roots. Hence, the need to get the appropriate depth of sewer lines right.

Sewer lines depth can vary greatly - they can be as shallow as 12 to 30 and can be as deep as 6+ feet. This is often determined by the climate.

A clogged sewer line, when left untreated, can lead to a wide range of serious problems. If the issues arises from a toilet or kitchen sink pipe, then it’s highly likely that it just might be a clogged drain. However, if every flush results in a build up of sewage in your home, then the problem is likely to be in the main sewer line. If you’re looking for ways in which you can unclog your main sewer line without a snake, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going to show you just how to go about it. Let’s take a look!

1. Boiling water. If you want a quick and easy fix of your blocked sewer pipe, then this is for you. Simply pour some quantity of boiling water into the drain. In several cases, this will cause the particles causing the blockage to dissolve or loosen without having to resort to more drastic measures. However, it’s advisable to only use this method on either metal or ceramic pipes. Use hot and not boiling water on PVC pipes to prevent heat from loosing its joints.
2. DIY Natural Cleaner. To use this method, simple create a DIY cleaner by incorporating bicarb soda (baking soda) and white vinegar. Pour the baking soda into the sewer pipe and follow it with the vinegar. Once done, cover the sewer pipe to ensure the mixture does not bubble out of the pipe. In some cases, you may need to repeat the process a number of times to make sure that the blockage is properly removed. After completion, simply flush your sewer pipes down with hot water.
3. Plunger. This is a very common option that home owners use in clearing their blocked drains. Firstly, cover all overflow spouts before you start to plunge to get a strong seal. The strong up and down pressure produced by the plunger can go a long way to clear any blockages to ensure your pipes flow uninterruptedly again.

Did you just arrive home after spending some time away? Immediately you turn the door knob and walk in, you perceive an unpleasant sulfuric odour. The questions that arises are many, you simply don’t know whether its your sewer line or perhaps something else. But one thing you know is, an air that smells that bad shouldn’t be ignored. And that’s totally right! A gassy smell in your home or property is always a sign that something is wrong and should never be overlooked until you’ve been able to get a better information since you may make a critical judgement error. Hence, it’s important to always educate oneself first in order to know the best thing to do after smelling gas.

When it comes to sewer gas, it possesses a sulfuric odour just like natural gas. However unlike natural gas, sewer gas smells a bit more unpleasant - more like an egg that’s rotten and less like a skunk. This is usually as a result of a back up of sulfides, methane, ammonia as well as other inorganic compounds. When in small quantity ( as it is in most homes), sewer gas is quite harmless even though the smell isn’t something you’d like to live with or want any of your visitors to be welcomed with. However, this smell can be dangerous when it comes in high doses such as in a deep sewage tunnel.

Most sewer issues come from a number of locations which includes the p-traps, unconnected pipes, damaged line, damage vent, cracked seal as well as foundation cracks. Although little doses of sewer gas lead to health problems, it isn’t an excuse to overlook the problem. Call in a specialist and while at it, you can also schedule a plumbing inspection every year.
