Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth is an old market town and popular holiday resort in Ceredigion, West Wales. Locals often call it Aber, and it sits close to the join of the rivers Ystwyth and Rheidol.

The University of Aberystwyth was founded in 1872 and has had a large student population ever since. At the 2001 census, 13,040 people lived there, not including the additional 10,000 students expected between September and June.

Although the name of the town suggests the River Ystwyth runs through Aberystwyth, it only borders it. Only the River Rheidol passes through the town.

Aberystwyth has a pier and a seafront that spans from Constitution Hill to the mouth of the harbour. Constitution Hill is a hill and walking spot that has a cable railway and a Victorian camera obscura at the top.

There is evidence that the space around Aberystwyth had settlers during the Mesolithic Age. Hunter-gatherers might have utlised the local flint to produce weapons as the ice receded. There are also the remains of a Celtic fortress on a hill overlooking Aberystwyth, meaning the site had settlers prior to 700AD.

FAQs

Should I use a certified electrician to install my electric heating?

It’s always recommended to use a certified electrician to carry out electrical work. They can self-certify that their work meets building regulations. While some parts of electric heating systems can be installed as a DIY project, the thermostat and other control wiring legally must be installed by a certified electrician. There are a range of competent persons schemes in operation.

Is electric heating suitable for my home?

There are a range of variables that will determine which heating system is best for your home, such as the level of insulation and size of rooms. However, electric heating is suitable for many homes. Electric boilers are very compact and do not need a flue. Underfloor heating is effective at heating rooms of any size.

Do I need a Part P registered electrician?

Home electrics can be extremely dangerous and it’s very unwise to try and carry out repair work or maintenance yourself without the necessary knowledge and skill. Therefore we would always recommend using a Part P registered electrician at all times.

Can I fit electrics in my garden shed?

It might be possible to fit electrics in your shed, depending on where it is and what it’s made of. You should get in touch with a qualified electrician to find out whether it’s possible. Never attempt to run electrical cable from your house to an outbuilding!
